EHS Wins Girls Race, Newton Boys Title at Olney C.C. Invite

OLNEY -- Effingham High School captured the girls championship at the Olney Cross Country Invitational while Newton was the first place team in the boys meet Saturday.

In the girls meet, Effingham tallied 48 followed by Robinson 62, Newton 93, Williamsville 98, Olney 102, Fairfield 148, Salem 157, Mattoon 200 and Princeton Community 218. Altamont, Dieterich, North Clay (Louisville), Teutopolis, Casey-Westfield, Lawrenceville, McLeansboro Hamilton County and Odin had runners but not enough for a team score.

Olney's Tatum David won the individual championship with a time of 18:53.10.

Scoring for the Hearts were Jessica Larsen third in 19:30.88, Baylee Summers sixth in 20:46.40, Audrey Wagoner ninth in 21:20.76, Haddie Hill 13th in 21:43.00 and Morgan Springer 17th in 21:54.24. Allison Miller was 25th in 22:57.42, Laney Myers 45th in 25:37.90 and Gracie Eaton in 31:05.99.

In the boys race, Newton won with 51 points followed by Williamsville 76, Princeton Community 77, Effingham 84, Robinson 137, Fairfield 149, Olney 178, McLeansboro Hamilton County 203, Dieterich 251, Salem 255, Georgetown Notre Dame de La Salette 302 and Mattoon 378. Altamont, North Clay (Louisville), Teutopolis, Casey-Westfield, Lawrenceville, Mount Carmel, Odin and Hutsonville had runners but not enough for a team score.

Scoring for Newton were Clay Bergbower fourth in 16:29.22, Nick Shamhart seventh in 16:41.51, Owen Mahaffey 10th in 17:05.74, Luke Weber 13th in 17:14.22 and Luis Zavala 17th in 17:40.71. Non-counting were Ben Street 21st in 17:48.30, Brock Probst 24th in 17:53.39, Hayden Borgic in 18:43.26, Isaac Street in 18:42.96 and Jackson Sornberger in 19:06.53.
