EHS Boys Win Paris Acklin C.C. Title, Girls Second

PARIS -- Effingham High School claimed the championship of the Paris Acklin Boys Cross Country Meet Saturday.

The Hearts' Garrett Wagoner was first with a time of 17:11.48 while Andrew Donaldson took second in 17:16.16. Also scoring for the Hearts were Alex Gordon fifth in 17:58.13, Adam Flack 14th in 19:12.23 and Aaron Hill 21st in 20:07.40. EHS totaled 37 points for first place.

Second went to Newton with 41 followed by Heritage 74 and Marshall 77. Also competing but not having enough runners for a team score were Teutopolis, Paris, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville, Tri-County, Casey-Westfield and Chrisman.

Newton's top finisher was Nick Shamhart fourth in 17:55.11. Also scoring for the Eagles were Clay Bergbower sixth in 17:59.74, Owen Mahaffey eighth in 18:33.50, Ben Street 11th in 19:03.42 and Brock Probst 15th in 19:13.32.

T-town's top runner was Oliver Lee 39th in 22:30.24.

In the girls meet, Marshall was the team champion with 33 points followed by Effingham 36, Newton 65, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 107 and Paris 115. Teams not having enough runners for a team score were Teutopolis, Okaw Valley, Tuscola, Heritage, Oblong/Palestine/Hutosnville, Casey-Westfield and Chrisman.

Capturing first place in the girls meet was Brooklyn Bender from Marshall with a time of 19:45.87. Marshall took the top three spots.

Effingham's Jessica Larsen finished fourth in 20:22.11. Also scoring for the Hearts were Audrey Wagoner sixth in 20:49.62, Baylee Summers ninth in 22:09.71, Alison Miller 12th in 22:41.05 and Haddie Hill 13th in 22:48.27.

The top runner for Newton was Layna Marshall fifth in 20:47.36. Also scoring for the Eagles were Natalie Kistner 14th in 22:49.53, Shay Bennett 15th in 23:04.86, Alexis Hetzer 25th in 24:21.41 and Ella Radke 26th in 24:29.50.

T-town's top frunner was Kaitlyn Vahling 49th in 28:46.26.
