Area teams competed in junior high school cross country sectionals Saturday and three teams along with 11 individuals advance to State from this area.

 

In the Class 1A Casey-Westfield Sectional, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City advanced as a team in boys competition while Effingham St. Anthony advanced a girls team.

Casey-Westfield won its own boys sectional with 59 points followed by CHBC with 92, Bement 95, St. Anthony 99, Chrisman Scottland 159, Sigel St. Michael 178, Findlay Okaw Valley 195 and Assumption Central A&M 237. Effingham Sacred Heart, Decatur Johns Hill, Kansas, Decatur Montessori Academy for Peace and Decatur Our Lady of  Lourdes had runners competing but not enough for a team score.

The individual champion of the meet was Effingham Sacred Heart's Juluis Ramos with a time of 11:48.4. Other area runners finishing in the top 10 were August Cosart of CHBC in sixth in 12:42.4, Daniel Ramos of Sacred Heart seventh in 12:43.0 and Camden Bloemer of St. Anthony 10th in 13:14.2.

The top three teams advance along with the top five Individuals not members of qualifying teams. CHBC team members advancing are August Cosart, Deacon Sutter, Hayden Sarver, Slade Rauch, Porter Lilly and Charlie Wittenborg.

Sacred Heart's Julius Ramos and Daniel Ramos advance along with St. Anthony's Camden Bloemer and Mike Fearday.

In the Class 1A girls meet, Effingham St. Anthony advanced as a team by finishing second with 63 points. Winning was Casey-Westfield with 60 followed by St. Anthony, Sigel St. Michael 96, Bement 129, Assumption Central A&M 130, Decatur Johns Hill 155 and Findlay Okaw Valley 160. Other teams competing but not having enough runners were Effingham Sacred Heart, Chrisman Scottland, Decatur Montiessori Academy For Peace and Kansas.

Sacred Heart's Isabella Keller was the individual champion with a time of 12:14.4. St. Anthony took the next two spots as Nora Trupiano finished in 12:32.2 and Reese Hoene in 13:42.4. Sigel St. Michae's Nancy Ruholl was fourth in 13:48.7 while Nora Bueker took eighth in 14:07.9.

Advancing in the girls meet was St. Anthony as a team that included Nora Trupiano, Maggie Brent, Ava Busher, Jada Carpenter, Gianna Frisbie, Reese Hoene, Addison Jones and Veronica Sudkamp and Sigel St. Michael's team of Natalie Ballinger, Nora Bueker, Sophia Cremens, Nancy Ruholl and Brooklyn Will.

Individually advancing was Sacred Heart's Isabella Keller.

The Class 1A State meet will be held Saturday at Maxwell Park with the girls race at 12:30 p.m. and the boys race at 1:15.

CLASS 2A

Cumberland, Jasper County and Teutopolis competed in the Class 2A Sectional H at St. Joseph Saturday.

Both teams had one runner advancing to State.

Winning the team title was Tolono Unity 53 followed by St.Joseph 124, Monticello 134, Robinson Nuttall 139, Sullivan 152, Paris Mayo 153, Shelbyville Moulton 156, Cumberland 164, Jasper County 172, Clinton 199, Teutopolis 252, Maroa-Forysth 370, Georgetown Mary MIller 406 and Decatur Dennis 419. Not having team scores were Warrensburg-Latham and Marshall.

Cumberland's Cameron Roedl advances with a fourth place finish in 11:35.4.

Jasper County's Hayden Borgic advances after finishing ninth in 11:58.6.

In the girls meet, Tolono Unity was the winner with 27 points follwed by Shelbyville Moulton 89, Robinson Nuttall 116, St. Joseph 131, Monticello 142, Marshall 162, Jasper County 165, Sullivan 166, Teutopolis 258, Paris Mayo 296, Clinton 344, Cumberland 367 and Georgetown Mary Miller 408. Other schools competing were Warrensburg-Latham, Decatur Dennis and Maroa-Forsyth.

Jasper County's top finisher was Layna Marshall 18th in 14:10.9. T-town's top placer was Sophia Martin 30th in 14:37.4. Neither team advanced to State.

CLASS 3A

Effingham finished fifth as a team in the boys Class 3A Sectional I at Chatham Glenwood and sixth in the girls meet. The Mustangs didn't advance as a team but one boy and three girls will be competing at the Class 3A State Meet at Maxwell Park in Normal Saturday, October 16.

Drew Weis finished 15th for the Mustangs in the girls meet with a time of 13:25 while Emery Spicer was 16th in 13:26 and Baylee Summers 18th in 13:27. All three advance to State.

In the boys meet, Alex Gordon captured fourth place with a time of 11:27.19 and advances to State.

The Class 3A State Meet girls race will be held at 11 a.m. while the boys race will be contested at 11:45 a.m.
