EHS Girls Win Centralia C.C. Invite, Boys Fifth

CENTRALIA -- The Effingham High School girls cross country team claimed the championship of the Centralia Orphan Cross Country Invitational October 9.

s tallied 38 points followed by Breese Mater Dei 42, Mascoutah 79, Salem 88, Centralia 110 and East St. Louis 156. Other schools entered that did not have enough runners for a team score were Carbondale, Webber Township (Bluford), Mount Vernon, Flora, Odin, Marion and Cahokia.

Effingham's Jessica Larson won the meet with a time of 19:40.0. Also scoring for the Hearts were Kayleigh Koester sixth in 20:50.0, Haddie Hill 10th in 21:09.4, Morgan Springer 13th in 21:52.3 and Allison MIller 25th in 23:04.3. Also competing for EHS were Audrey Wagoner 44th in 26:00.6 and Gracie Eaton 51st in 28:58.4.

The EHS boys squad finished fifth with 125 points. Winning was Marian with 37 followed by Mount Vernon 68, Breese Mater Dei 114, Carbondale 121,  Effingham, Fairfield 137, Salem 159, Webber Township 171 and Mascoutah 193. Schools not having enough runners for a full team were Carbondale, Flora and Centralia. Carbondale's Alex Partlow won with a time of 15:16.

Effingham's Andrew Donaldson finished 12th in 17:07.5. Other EHS scorers were Adam Flack 18th, Garrett Wagoner 22nd, Jon Perry 36th in 18:32.1 and Aaron Hill 48th in 19:24.3. Non-scorers were Sam Spicer 50th in 19:29.4 and Payton Bushue 59th in 21:50.2. Flack and Wagoner's times were unreadable.
