St. Anthony Wins Chrisman C.C. Regional, Area Roundup

CHRISMAN -- Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed the championship of the Class 1A Chrisman Cross Country Regional in the boys meet Saturday.

The Bulldogs tallied 53 followed by Robinson 60, Newton 66, Marshall 77, Teutopolis 134, Sullivan 192, Mount Carmel 195, Cumberland 197, Dieterich 230 and Paris 253. Hutsonville/Palestine, Flora, Oakland, Lawrenceville and Chrisman did not have enough runners for a team score.

Scoring for St. Anthony were Noah Tegeler fifth in 17:15.7, Brian Dust seventh in 17:28.3, Griffin Elder 12th in 17:40.6, Ty Wiedman 18th in 17:55.4 and Conlan Walsh 22nd in 18:11.7.

Winning the meet was Newton's Nick Zwilling with a time of 16:26.7. The Eagles' Luke Weber finished fourth in 17:10.3.

The top five teams and the top five runners not members of those teams will advance to sectional action Saturday, Oct. 31 at Decatur St. Teresa.

Advancing as teams were St. Anthony, Robinson, Newton, Marshall and Teutopolis. Individuals advancing were Logan Edwards (Cumberland), Isaac Stanford (Flora), Brayden Green (Lawrenceville), Gehrig Jones (Mount Carmel) and Eli Johnson (Chrisman).

In the girls meet, Marshall won the regional title with 26 points followed by Robinson 65, Casey-Westfield 92, Teutopolis 101, Neoga 108, Newton 133,  St. Anthony 156 and Dieterich 203. Not having enough runners for a team score were Lawrenceville, Mount Carmel, Sullivan, Chrisman, Paris and Oakland.

Winning the individual championship was Brooklyn Bender of Marshall in 19:24.8. Neoga's Jasmyn Dittamore took third in 19:43.2 while Newton's Rylea Borgic was fifth in 19:53.2.

The top five teams and the top five runners not members of those teams will advance to sectional action Saturday, Oct. 31 at Decatur St. Teresa.

The top five teams were Marshall, Robinson, Casey-Westfield, Teutopolis and Neoga. The top five runners advancing were Rilie Willenborg (St. Anthony), Rylea Borgic (Newton), Kaitlyn Coombes (Paris), Tori Turnbaugh (Sullivan) and Ophelia Klein.

Class 1A Carlinville Regional

Altamont and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City runners competed in the Carlinville Regional.

Shelbyville won the boys meet with 55 points followed by Litchfield 87, Glen Carbon Father McGivney 94, Carlinville 96, Roxana 108, Altamont 132, Edwardsville Metro-East 160, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 230, Greenville 239 and Piasa Southwestern 265.

Tyler Guthrie of Glen Carbon Father McGivney won the meet in 15:18.92.

Altamont's Derick Budde finished 11th in 17:24.27. Also finishing for the Indians were Aden McManaway 12th in 17:24.52; Corey Jackson 19th in 17:36.49; Jerod Ruffner 39th in 18:36.55; Braden Grunloh 61st in 20:37.89 and Matthew Becker 65th in 20:54.67.

Finishing for CHBC were Zane Merrifield 40th in 18:39.49; Kenny Robbins 42nd in 18:47.17; Jackson Sarver 47th in 19:19.17; Beau Doedtman 57th in 20:17.08; Gage Lorton 69th in 21:21.33 and Jack Robinson 79th in 26:42.74.

The top five teams and top five individuals not members of those teams, advance to the Decatur St. Teresa Sectional Saturday, Oct. 31.

Advancing as teams were Shelbyville, Litchfield, Glen Carbon Father McGivney, Carlinville and Roxana.

Altamont had three runners advance and those included Derick Budde, Aden McManaway and Corey Jackson. Also advancing as individuals were Logan Wyatt and Elijah Schlessinger of Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran.

In the girls meet, Shelbyville won with 38 points followed by Roxana 48, Glen Carbon Father McGivney 86, Litchfield 136, Alton Marquette 143, Staunton 186, Hillsboro 189, Pana 191, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 230, Piasa Southwestern 244, Greenville 268 and Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran 285.

Gabrielle Spain of Shelbyville won with a time of 18:38.70.

The top finisher for CHBC was Sydney Lorton 14th in 20:48.49. Other runners for the Bobcats were Carsen Burks 49th in 23:45.39; Jacque Wittenburg 61st in 24:45.24; Camilla Andedetti 69th in 26:03.08 and Zaryah Smith 70 in 26:06.08.

Altamont runners were Taylor Mette 27th in 22:03.11 and Brianna Grunloh 41st in 23:05.24.

The top five teams advancing to the sectional are Shelbyville, Roxana, Glen Carbon Father McGivney, Litchfield and Alton Marquette. The top five runners advancing are Sydney Lorton (CHBC), Sierra Compton (Hillsboro), Megan Douglas (East Alton-Wood River), Dana Jarden (Staunton) and Olivia Thoroman (Virden North Mac).

 

Class 2A Taylorville Regional

Effingham finished seventh in the girls regional and eighth in the boys meet Saturday at the Taylorville Regional.

Winnign the girls meet was Mahomet-Seymour with 50 points followed by Charleston 110, Olney 119, Taylorville 129, Mattoon 139, Champaign Central 141,  Effingham 149, Champaign Centennial 151, Danville 185 and Urbana 187.

Winning the meet was Mahomet-Seymour's Elizabeth Sims with a time of 19:08.0.

The top finisher for the Hearts was Kiley Weaver 17th in 20:47.4. Also running for EHS were Marah Kirk 24th in 20:59.9, Nicole Schniederjon 26th in 21:01.4, Kayleigh Koester 43rd in 22:30.3, Daelyn Dunston 46th in 22:52.3, Audrey Wagner 59th in 24:47.3 and Gracie Eaton 65th in 26:21.1.

The top five teams and top five individuals not members of  those teams advance to the Olney Sectional Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.

The top five teams were Mahomet-Seymour, Charleston, Olney, Taylorville and Mattoon. The top five runners were Brooklynn Sweikar and Isabella Ramshaw of Champaign Centennial, Maaike Nieker of Champaign Central, Phoebe Gerstenecker of Urbana and Allison Thompson of Danville.

In the boys meet, Mahomet-Seymour was the team champion with 48 points followed by Olney 75, Champaign Central 87, Mattoon 113, Urbana 131, Taylorville 134, Champaign Centennial 140, Effingham 229, Rantoul 250, Danville 274 and Charleston 292.

Winning the individual title was Chris Cherry of Taylorville in 15:35.5.

Competing for Effingham were Andrew Donaldson 11th in 16:43.9, Garrett Wagoner 34th in 17:35.0, Jon Perry 56th in 18:33.1, John Westendorf 63rd in 19:06.6, Dane Seiler 65th in 19:12.9, Logan Heil 68th in 19:27.2 and Parsh Amin 74th in 22:01.2.

The top five teams heading to the Olney Sectional Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. are Mahomet-Seymour, Olney, Champaign Central, Mattoon and Urbana.

The top five runners not members of those teams advancing are Andrew Donaldson of Effingham, Chris Cherry of Taylorville, Aaron Hendron of Champaign Centennial, Luca Carcasi of Charleston and Evan Morgan of Taylorville.
