EHS Girls Third, Boys Fourth In Cross Country Meets

Effingham High School finished third in the girls meet and fourth in the boys cross country meet at the Ballard Nature Center Saturday.

In the girls race, Champaign Central won with 45 points followed by Danville 52, Effingham 57 and Champaign Centennial 61. Altamont and Olney competed but did not have enough for a team score.

Centennial's Brooklyn Sweikar finished first with a time of 20:06. Olney's Hope Laughlin was second in 20:42 and Emily Nutall third in 20:44. Central's Maaike Niekerk was fourth in 20;55 and Danville's Allison Thompson rounded out the top five in 21:10.

Effingham's Kiley Weaver took sixth in 21:13 while Nicole Schniederjon finished eighth in 21:18.99. Also scoring were Marah Kirk 11th in 21:27, Daelyn Dunston 23rd in 24:26 and Kayleigh Koester 25th in 24:37.

In the boys meet, Olney's Gavin Kirby set a new course record with a time of 16:38 to win the individual title. The Tigers also captured the team championship with 27 points followed by Champaign Central 50, Champaign Centennial 74, Effingham 108, Danville 122 and Altamont 150.

Second went to Centennial's Aaron Hendron in 16:41 followed by Brooks Julian from Olney third in 16:46, Alex Ahmari from Central in 16:52 and Effingham's Andrew Donaldson rounded out the top five in 17:12.

Also scoring for the Hearts were Tucker Moeller 22nd in 18:21, Garrett Wagoner 23rd in 18:22, Jon Perry 26th in 18:39 and Dane Seiler 32nd in 19:43.

Scoring for Altamont were Corey Jackson 14th in 17:54, Derick Budde 27th in 18:41, Jerod Ruffner 34rd in 20:09, Braden Grunloh 37th in 21:29 and Matthew Becker 38th in 21:30.
