Area Teams Compete At Charleston Invitational

CHARLESTON -- Area cross country teams finished in the middle of the pack at the Charleston Invitational Cross Country Meets Saturday, Sept. 5.

In the boys meet, Mahomet-Seymour claimed the top spot with 50 points followed by Olney 57, St. Joseph-Ogden 60, Mattoon 102, Champaign Centennial 152, Shelbyville 178, Mount Zion 207, Newton 220, Effingham 232, Danville 261, Cumberland 277, Charleston 302 and Sullivan 370.

Winning the individual title was Olney's Gavin Kirby with a time of 15:46.20.

In the girl's meet, it was also Mahomet-Seymour taking the top spot with 62 points followed by Shelbyville 75, Mount Zion 85, Charleston 126, St. Joseph-Ogden 142, Champaign Centennial 186, Newton 205, Effingham 207, Cumberland 211, Mattoon 218 and Danville 256. Olney and Sullivan did not have enough members for a team score.

Claiming the girls individual title was Gabby Spain of Shelbyville in 18:59.67.
