NEWTON -- Newton High School claimed both a boys and a girls cross country meet over Effingham Tuesday at Sam Parr State Park.

Newton won the boys meet, 19-36. The Eagles' Nick Zwilling captured first place with a time of 15:17. Also scoring for Newton were Owen Mahaffey third in 16:41, Clay Bergbower was fourth in 16:48 while Luke Weber took fifth in 16:55 and Ben Street sixth in 17:12.

Scoring for the Hearts were Andrew Donaldson second in 16:16, Tucker Moeller seventh in 17:32, Garrett Wagner eighth in 17:33, Jon Perry ninth in 18:00 and John Westendorf 10th in 18:16.

In the girls meet, Newton claimed a 27-38 victory. Scoring for the Eagles were Rylea Borgic first in 19:27, Laney Hemrich fifth in 21:24, Lucy Yager sixth in 22:15, Alexis Hetzer seventh in 22:26 and Elly Bennett eighth in 22:48.

Scoring for EHS were Kiley Weaver second in 19:54, Marah Kirk third in 20:47, Nicole Schneiderjon fourth in 21:10, Daelyn Dunston ninth in 23:13 and Gracie Eaton 15th in 27:32.
