Area Runners Advance to Cross Country Sectionals

ROBINSON --  Effingham St. Anthony, Cumberland, Teutopolis and Neoga advanced as teams from the Class 1A Robinson Cross Country Regional Saturday.

Winning the boys regional championship was Robinson with 37 points followed by St. Anthony 62, Marshall 66, Cumberland 117, Teutopolis 143, Lawrenceville 195, Mount Carmel 221 and Neoga.221 in the top seven followed by Chrisman 244, Paris 246, Altamont 250, Dieterich 325 and Hutsonville/Palestine 336.

The top seven teams and top five runners, not members of those teams, qualify for sectional.

Scoring for second place St. Anthony were Brian Dust who finished third overall with a time of 16:06, Noah Tegeler 11th in 17:00.78, Ty Wiedman 17th in 17:24.22, Griffen Elder 20th in 17.37.58 and Conlan Walsh 23rd in 17.43.13.

Scoring for fourth place Cumberland were Michael Carpenter seventh in 16:27.00, Logan Edwards 16th in 17:21.92, Rayce Zike 26th in 17:46.97, Wiley Peters 32nd in 18:03.88 and Elijah McElravy 53rd in 19:16.00.

Teutopolis finished fifth and scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Cole Probst 21st in 17:39.74, Ethan Weidner 30th in 17:58.52, Brody Mette 34th in 18;13.16, Jack Waldhoff 35th in 18:18.80 and Ben Kitten 42nd in 18:50.53.

Scoring for Neoga were Anders Beck 46th in 18:55.31, Michael Dietz 47th in 18:56.69, Blake Fairbanks 69th in 20:01.49, Christian Montoya 75th in 20:23.34 and Devon Kingery 88th in 21:49.11.

Advancing as individuals not members of advancing teams were Newton's Nick Zwilling eighth in 16:33.09 and Owen Mahaffey 12th in 17:09.32.

Capturing the meet was Flora's Isaac Stanford in 15:47.51.

In the girls meet, Marshall won with 23 points followed by Casey-Westfield 98, Robinson 106, Teutopolis 111,  Cumberland 132, Newton 150, Paris 153, St. Anthony 153, Neoga 208 and Chrisman 237.

Advancing as teams were Teutopolis, Cumberland, Newton and St. Anthony.

Members of the Wooden Shoes who scored were Jessica Runde fourth in 19:09.27; Tory Tensen 14th in 20:25.46; Abby Bloemer 28th in 21:23.49; Ella Zumbahlen 40th in 22:37.12 and Katie Kingery 43rd in 22:41.38.

Members of Cumberland scoring were Jasmyn Dittamore third in 18:48.77, Eve Brown 19th in 20:56.17, Emma Butler 20th in 20:56.18, Morgan Scott 46th in 22:59.08 and Olivia Pruemer 62nd in 25:01.00.

Scoring for Newton were Abby Stone seventh in 19:55.74, Claire Carr 33rd in 21:44.33, Lucy Yager 37th in 22:17.56, Tonya Slough 49th in 23:23.04 and Eliza Bierman 51st in 23:26.88.

Scoring for St. Anthony were Rilie Willenborg 17th in 20:39.21, Katherine Slaughter 25th in 21:16.53, Riley Guy 26th in 21:22.54, Audrey Niebrugge 52nd in 23:31.44 and Jessica Wilson 56th in 24:19.55.

Altamont's Gia Sandoval advanced to sectional in the top five individuals not members of qualifying teams along with Neoga's Kylee Phillips and North Clay's McKenna Carter. Sandoval finished 22nd in 21:05.47 while Phillips was 23rd in 21:07.72 and Carter took 29th in 21:30.12.

Capturing the meet was Marshall's Isabel Arthur with a time of 18:31.43.

The qualifiers advance to the St. Anthony Sectional Saturday. Girls will run at 10 a.m. and boys are scheduled for 11 a.m.

Class 2A Mattoon Regional

The Effingham High School girls cross country team will be competing in the Class 2A Decatur MacArthur Sectional after advancing Saturday at Mattoon.

Mount Zion won the meet with 27 points followed by Olney 68, Charleston 70, Mattoon 112, Centralia 119 and Effingham 126. Individuals competed from Decatur MacArthur, Danville and Salem.

Winning the meet was Olney's Tatum David with a time of 17:02.

Scoring for Effingham were Kiley Weaver 20th in 22:15.94, Marah Kirk 21st in 22:16.00, Nicole Schniederjon 27th in 23:01.94 Daelyn Dunston 35th in 24:26.86 and Hope Monnet 39th in 25:02.39.

Effingham's Alfredo Lopez advanced for the Hearts in the boys meet.

Winning the meet was Centralia with 42 points followed by Olney 54, Mount Zion 106, Mattoon 109, Danville 118, Charleston 143, Decatur MacArthur 212, Salem 220, Effingham 224 and Decatur Eisenhower 247.

Claiming the individual title was Centralia's Brooks Harlan with a time of 16:18.

Scoring for Effingham were Alfredo Lopez 30th in 18:55.35, Clayton Cramsey 46th in 19:52.52, Andrew Donaldson 47th in 19:56.73, Zeel Patel 48th in 19:59.83 and Garrett Wagoner 53rd in 20:18.68.

Advancing as teams were Centralia, Olney, Mount Zion, Mattoon, Danville and Charleston. Lopez will be competing as an individual not a member of a qualifying team.

The EHS girls and Lopez will be competing in the Decatur MacArthur Sectional Saturday with the girls meet beginning at 10 a.m. and the boys at 11 a.m.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City competed in the Shelbyville Regional and one runner advanced.

Dylan Taylor will be competing for the Bobcats in the Class 1A St. Anthony Sectional after finishing 11th in 17:20.67.

Winning the boys meet was Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond with 47 points followed by Carlinville 96, Shelbyville 104, Litchfield 111, Decatur St. Teresa 122, Alton Marquette 144, Auburn 155, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 193, Sullivan 217, Moweaqua Central A&M 222 and Pana 294.

ALAH, Carlinville, Shelbyville, Litchfield, Decatur St. Teresa, Alton Marquette and Auburn advanced as teams. 

In the girls meet, Shelbyville won with 61 points followed by Decatur St. Tersesa 73, Litchfield 90, auburn 117, Staunton 123, Piasa Southwestern 187, Carlinville 195, Alton Marquette 204, Hillsboro 206, Bethany Okaw Valley 225 and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 245.
