Area Teams Compete In Mattoon C.C. Invitational

MATTOON -- Olney High School claimed the boys championship while Marshall took the girls victory at the Mattoon Cross Country Invitationals Wednesday.

Olney won the boys meet with 73 points followed by Mattoon 120, Robinson 141, Taylorville 146, Marshall 181, Effingham St. Anthony 207, Effingham 236, Teutopolis 237, Cumberland 263, Newton 282, Charleston 286, Rantoul 311, Neoga 349, Lawrenceville 349, Mount Zion 353, Decatur MacArthur 361, Decatur Eisenhower 384 and Hume Shiloh 384.

Olney's Gavin Kirby claimed first place with a time of 15:21.6.

St. Anthony's Brian Dust finished fourth in 16:10.4 while Newton's Nick Zwilling was fifth in 16:14.8. Effingham's Alfredo Lopez was ninth in 16:42.4. Neoga's first place finisher was Brayden Cox 11th in 16:53.3

T-town's top fnisher was Ethan Weidner 28th in 17:29.8. Also for Teutopolis: Cole Probst 18:05, Matthew Deters 18:18, Brody Mette 18:38, Jack Waldhoff 18:56. Cumberland's Michael Carpenter was 27th in 17:27.9.

In the girls meet, Marshall tallied 34 points followed by Mount Zion 72, Charleston 122, Olney 128, Mattoon 165, Casey-Westfield 169, Robinson 174, Newton 193, Teutopolis 217, St. Anthony 242, Cumberland 245 and Neoga 289. Effingham had runners competing but not enough for a team score.

Olney's Tatum David won with a time fo 16:52.8.

Cumberland's Jasmyn Dittamore took ninth in 19:45.2. T-town's top finisher was Jessica Runde 13th in 20:03.0. Also for Teutopolis: Tory Tensen 21:54, Abby Bloemer 22:26. Effingham's Marah Kirk took 17th in 20:19.5.

St. Anthony's Rillie Willenborg finished 39th in 21:25.1. Newton's Abby Stone was 20th in 20:30.0. Neoga's Kylee Phillips finished 44th in 21:50.4.
