St. Anthony Junior High Boys Finish Fourth at State

The St. Anthony/Sacred Heart Junior High boys cross country team finished fourth overall at the Class 1A State Meet Saturday.

Giovanni Bucio finished 14th overall with a time of 11:17.7, Conlin Walsh was 31st in 11:34.2, Nick Wiedman 36th in 11:44.6, Griffen Elder 42nd in 11:48.3, Aiden Braunecker 62nd in 12:02.8, Max Sager 79th in 12:09.4, and Drew Hanfland 113th out of 231 competitors in 12:24.2. The team total was 153 points.

Winning the individual state championship was Chicago St. Benedict's William Archer with a time of 1:38.7. St. Benedict also nabbed the team championship with 22 points.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Kenneth Robbins took 55th in 11:57.2 while Aiden Wallace was 130th in 12:37.4.

In the Class 1A Girls State Meet, St. Anthony finished 21st as a team with 544 points. Competing for the Bullpups were Anna Faber 139th in 14:05.0, Emma Helmink 141st in 14:06.2, Ava Faber 154th in 14:18.8, Allison Geen 172nd in 14:33.7, Sophia Seagle 190th in 14:55.1 and Grace Niebrugge 208th in 15:29.1.

The team title went to Chicago Old St. Mary's with 117 points. Maria Stedwill finished first in 11:48.2 for Peoria St. Jude.

In Class 2A competition, Jasper County took 24th for the boys with 558 points. Competing for Jasper County were Owen Mahaffey 84th in 11:44.1, Luis Zavala 121st in 11:59.4, Luke Weber 150th in 12:41.1, Brock Probst 198th in 12:43.5, Clay Bergbower 201st in 12:44.0, Gage Reynolds 219th in 13:01.6 and Ben Street 222nd in 13:12.7.

Teutopolis' Gavin Tegeler fniished 131st in 12:04.5.

Winning the team championship was Chicago Latin School with 61 points. The individual title went to DeKalb Clinton Rosette's Riley Newport with a time of 10:36.2.

In the Class 2A girls meet, Jasper County was 25th as a team with 618 points. Competing for the squad were Ella Radke 87th in 13:06.1, Camryn Martin 153rd in 13:36.9, Cierrah Utley 158th in 13:40.9, Sydney Kinder 205th in 14:19.6, Natalie Kistner 208th in 14:25.0, Karasyn Martin 223rd in 14:40.2 and Tayler Slough 228th in 14:54.4.

Effingham's Marah Kick competed and finished 55th in 12:52.1 and Jessica Larsen was 115th in 13:17.7.

The team championship went to Tolono Unity with 44 points. Winning the individual title was Marissa Roggensack of Winnebago with a time of 11:34.8.
