St. A State Champ Team Welcomed Home, Area C.C. State Results

The St. Anthony state champion junior high cross country team.

The St. Anthony Grade School cross country team was welcomed home Sunday afternoon after capturing the boys junior high state championship on Saturday. Team members include eighth-grader Brian Dust, who was the individual state champion.

Kennan Walsh also made the Top 10, finishing 10th in 11:03.3. The other counters for St. Anthony: Austin Faber 27th in 11:31.8, Mick Willenborg 39th in 11:43.4, Drew Dust 40th in 11:44.2, Logan Antrim 48th in 11:54.1, and Ty Wiedman 51st in 11:56.1.

Brian Dust's state championship time was 10:35.6, about 2-1/2 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Dust said at the Welcome Home Sunday afternoon he didn't know he was going to win in the earlier going, and the second place finisher was coming on before Dust put on a kick of his own to post the win.

J.R. Elder and Laura Link are the coaches of the state championship St. Anthony squad.

In the Class 1A State Girls Meet, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City finished 26th. Team members and times were Haley Bartels 108th in 13:56, Carsen Burks 111th in 13:59, Kaylynn Moeller 163rd in 14:07, Jacque Witteborg 194th in 14:32, Payton Johnson 222nd in 15:14 and Tatyana Duckwitz 227th in 15:25.

Cumberland's Jasmyn Dittamore competed in the Class 2A State Girls Meet and finished 33rd in 12:19.5.

In the Class 2A boys meet, T-town's Ethan Weidner was 49th in 11:20.5 and Cumberland's Rayce Zike took 55th in 11:23.9.
