Bullpups Win Cross Country Sectional

St. Anthony shows its sectional championship plaque. The Bullpups will compete in the Class 1A State Meet Saturday in Normal.

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School captured the Class 1A Champaign St. Thomas More Cross Country Sectional Saturday.

Brian Dust won the sectional with a time of 10:46.00. The Bullpups placed six runners in the top 12. Also scoring were Kennan Walsh fourth in 11:11.00, Drew Dust seventh in 11:48.00, Mick Willenborg 10th in 11:56.00 and Logan Antrim 11th in 12:04.00. Austin Faber took 12th in 12:05.00 and Noah Tegeler was 24th in 12:54.00.

St. Anthony won the team championship with 28 points followed by Urbana University 47, Champaign St. Matthew 89, Champaign Holy Cross 107, Champaign Next Generation 146, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 160, Casey-Westfield 204, Villa Grove 212 and Oakland Lake Crest 215.

Runners competing for Cowden-Herrick were Gage Richards 30th in 13:11.00, Jayden Yingst 31st in 13:12.00, Kenny Robbins 34th in 13:14.00, Stephen Gordon 45th in 13:58.00, Jarrett Thompson 51st in 14:16.00, Jackson Sarver 55th in 14:31.00 and Rylee Fisher 61st in 15:06.00.

In the Class 1A girls meet, Philo St. Thomas won the team title with 38 points followed by Champaign St. Matthew 41, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 104, Casey-Westfield 113, Urbana University 130, Champaign Holy Cross 151, Effingham St. Anthony 154, Chrisman Scottland 235, Villa Grove 235, Rossville-Alvin 249 and Findlay Okaw Valley 277.

Champaign St. Matthew's Bella Ramshaw was the individual champion with a time of 11:49.00.

Competing for Cowden-Herrick were Haley Bartel 12th in 13:41.00, Carsen Burks 23rd in 14:18.00, Sydney Lorton 25th in 14:23.00, Kaylynn Moeller 27th in 14:28.00, Jacque Witteborg 30th in 14:33.00, Payton Johnson 44th in 15:33.00 and Tatyana Duckwitz 50th in 15:56.00.

Competing for St. Anthony were Anna Faber 21st in 14:14.26, Rilie Willenborg 29th in 14:32.00, Abby Dietzen 32nd in 14:38.35, Claire Sudkamp 33rd in 14:38.70, Lauren Schwing 54th in 16:03.88 and Payton Sehy 65th in 16:53.00.

Advancing to the Class 1A State Meet are the St. Anthony boys squad and the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City girls team.

Competing at the Class 2A State Girls Meet will be Jasmyn Dittamore from Cumberland and the Class 2A State Boys Meet will be Ethan Weidner from Teutopolis and Rayce Zike from Cumberland. The State Meets will be held at Maxwell Park in Normal. The 1A girls will compete at 9:30 a.m. followed by the 1A boys at 10:15, the 2A girls at 11 and the 2A boys at 11:45.
