Wolverines Sink Spartans

(Ann Arbor, MI) -- Nik Stauskas scored 25 points and Caris LeVert had 23 to power the 20th-ranked Wolverines to a 79-70 win over the No. 14 Spartans in Ann Arbor. Glenn Robinson the Third scored 15 points with five rebounds for Michigan, which improved to 19-7 and 11-3 in the Big Ten. Gary Harris tallied 21 points for Michigan State, which dropped to 22-6 and 11-4 in the conference. Adreian Payne added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

 

Indiana Tech Falls to Concordia

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Despite having three players in double figures, the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team lost its regular season finale to Concordia, 67-72 at the Schaefer Center on Saturday.

The loss drops the Warriors to 16-14 on the season and 11-11 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. Tech finishes in a tie for sixth-place in the WHAC and will receive the seventh seed in the conference tournament, just ahead of eighth-seeded Concordia who finishes the regular season 13-17 overall and 10-12 in WHAC play.

Things started well for Tech as Antwan Cathey won the tip and scored the game’s first points on a layup just over a minute into the game, however, Concordia answered with an 18-13 run to take an eight-point, 18-10 lead with 9:35 to go in the half. Five points from senior Jeff Hoskins cut the lead to three and Cathey followed with two free throws to get to within one, 18-17. After the Cardinals stretched the lead back to six, the Warriors used a 7-0 run to take a lead of their own, 24-23 with 3:10 left in the period. The teams traded baskets down the stretch with Concordia sinking a layup with four seconds left to take a 30-27 halftime lead.

Tech finished the contest 21-for-56 (37.5%) from the field but were just 3-for-14 (21.4%) from three and 22-for-31 (71%) from the line while the Cardinals shot 57.8 percent (26-for-45) from the floor and were 8-for-16 (50%) from behind the arc and 12-for-19 (63.2%) from the charity stripe.

Hoskins finished with a game-high 25 points while Chavis scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Arben Camaj added 10 points for the Warriors. Effingham graduate Jeremy Wohltman hit two of eight from the field, one of four from the free throw line for five points. He also had three rebounds and two steals.


Illinois Remains Off Until Wednesday

(Champaign, IL) -- Illinois has a couple of days before getting back on the court. The Fighting Illini return to action Wednesday at home against Nebraska. This past Wednesday, Illinois upended Minnesota on the road to improve to 15-12. The Illini are 4-10 in the Big Ten.
