EHS Claims F/S Boys Wins Over Altamont

ALTAMONT -- Effingham High School claimed freshman/sophomore boys basketball victories over Altamont Thursday evening.
The Hearts won the freshman contest 66-56. Altamont took a 30-27 halftime lead but the Hearts came back with a 25-15 third period surge and claimed the win.
Jacob Donaldson and Brent Beals were the one-two scoring punch for the Hearts as Donaldson scored 29 and Beals 25.
Altamont was led by Armstrong with 33 points. Armstrong scored 13 in the opening quarter.
In the sophomore game, Effingham took a 60-53 win. The Hearts trailed 14-12 after the opening quarter but knotted the score at 30-30 at halftime. EHS then had a 17-13 third period lead.
Brady Jackson scored 20 for the winners while Drew Vasquez tallied nine and Alex Webb eight. Altamont was led by four players in double figures, Mayhaus with 13, Deadmond with 11 and Hosick and K. Wolff with 10 each.
