PARIS -- Effingham High School handed Paris a 57-48 loss in Apollo Conference boys basketball competition Tuesday.

The Hearts' Leighton Lark connected on two three-pointers in the opening quarter as EHS moved out to a 14-8 lead and led 24-20 at halftime.

The Hearts then had a 15-11 third quarter run and connected on 12 free throws in the final quarter to put the contest away.

Lark finished with 20 points to lead the Hearts while Phil Knight and Kevin Daugherty scored 10 each.

Paris was led by Temples with 13 and Spencer with 11.

At Neoga

Neoga edged Stewardson-Strasburg 55-52 in National Trail Conference action Tuesday evening.

The score was knotted at 15-15 after the opening quarter. Stew-Stras then took a 30-26 halftime lead and led 40-34 going into the final quarter. The Indians came back with a 16-10 final period run to knot the score at 50-50 sending the game into overtime.

The Indians then outscored Stew-Stras 5-2 in the overtime session to pull out the win. Krikie tallied 17 for Neoga while L. Baker scored 14.

Stew-Stras was led by Brandon Helmuth with 22 and Bryse Bugger with 13. Helmuth pulled down 10 rebounds.

Oblong edged Dieterich 51-50 in a non-conference contest.

Dieterich took a 23-22 first half lead but Oblong came back with a 20-13 third period run to lead 42-36 going into the final quarter. The Movin' Maroons made a run, outscoring Oblong 14-9, but fell short.

Mehler led Oblong with 17 while Mayhew tallied 15. Dieterich was led by A. Bohnhoff with 15. The Maroons drop to 17-8 on the season.

Casey-Westfield handed Cumberland a 77-46 loss in Little Illini Conference competition Tuesday evening.

The Warriors stepped out to a 36-27 halftime lead then had a big scoring third period outdistancing the Pirates 28-7 to put the contest away.

Casey-Westfield was led by Wolfe with 25, Huisinga with 20 and Murphy with 10.

Cumberland was led by Houston Napier with 18 and Brandon Sloan with 10.

Cowden-Herrick nabbed a 55-48 non-conference win over Mulberry Grove.

The Hornets held a slight 29-26 halftime lead. Mulberry Grove came back with a 15-13 third period run to pull within 42-41 going into the final quarter. The Hornets then had a 13-7 run to claim the victory.

Barnes tallied 14 and Sphar 13 for the winners.

St. Elmo/Brownstown fell to Nokomis 66-37 in a non-conference matchup.

Nokomis held a 34-12 halftime lead and never looked back in this one. M. Chausse tallied 19 for the winners while Hamlin scored 13 and A. Chausse 11.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Feezel with 12 as the lone player in double figures.
