Hearts Claim Apollo Conference Freshman Tourney Victories

Effingham High School claimed two wins to advance to the title game of the Apollo Conference Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Hearts defeated Charleston in the opening game, 70-46. EHS took a 42-25 halftime lead. Kyle Morrow tallied 24, eight in the second and third quarters. Jacob Donaldson added 21 and Trevor Kreke 11.
In the second contest, Effingham won over Paris 67-37. EHS again had a big lead at halftime 36-17. Donaldson led the way with 27 while Morrow chipped in with 14.
In the other game, Charleston edged Paris 58-53.
The Hearts move into the title contest this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Effingham against Mount Zion. Mount Zion beat Mattoon 60-56 then edged Salem 69-66. Mattoon won over Salem 76-54. Paris meets Salem at 10 a.m. for fifth place anda Charleston takes on Mattoon at 11:15 for third.
