St. Anthony Wins First-Ever Regional Championship; Other Scores

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs claimed their first-ever girls basketball regional championship Thursday night, defeating Altamont 36-27 to win the Altamont 1A Regional title. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.
Altamont got out of the gate in good fashion, leading 12-9 at halftime, but St. Anthony starting putting points on the board after intermission, outscoring Altamont 17-7 in the third quarter to pull ahead 26-19 and then 10-8 in the fourth quarter to claim the nine-point win and the regional championship.
Megan Nuxoll tallied 12 and Kate Richards 10 for the Bulldogs who had only two other playrs score in the contest. Altamont was led by M. Ohnesorge with 11.
St. Anthony will take on Central A&M Monday night at 6:00 at the Cumberland 1A Sectional. Central A&M beat Nokomis 57-55 to win the Nokomis Regional.
Advancing in the Three-Point Shootout were Makayla Walsh (St. Anthony), Brooke Burns (Altamont), Audriana Pruett (St. Elmo/Brownstown) and Megan Kimberlin (Ramsey).

Class 2A Vandalia Regional
Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Vandalia Regional with a 54-43 win over Greenville Thursday evening.
The Wooden Shoes held a 30-25 halftime lead and led 40-38 going into the final period. The Shoes then had a 14-5 run to pull away.
Two players hit double figures for the Shoes, Cierra Thompson with 13 and Repking with 10.
Teutopolis will play Tuesday night at 7:00 at the Casey-Westfield 2A Sectional against either McLeansboro Hamilton County or Harrisburg. Those two teams play tonight.

Class 1A Red Hill Regional
North Clay (Louisville) edged Palestine/Hutsonville 53-50 to win the Red Hill (Bridgeport) Regional Thursday evening.
The Cardinals edged out to a 15-14 opening quarter lead but Palestine/Hutsonville came back in the second period with a 16-8 run to lead 30-25 at halftime.
Morgan Walker scored five points in the third period run as North Clay pulled within 36-33 going into the final period. Then the Cardinals went to the free throw line punching in nine as Teehanna Wyatt connected on four field goals to pull out the victory.
Kortney Stanfield tallied 14 points while Wyatt and Walker added 11 each.
Palestine/Hutsonville was led by Emily Nehls with 17 and Calee Fulling with 10.
North Clay will play Arcola Monday at 8 p.m. at the Cumberland 1A Sectional. Arcola defeated Neoga 50-47 to win the Cumberland 1A Regional.
