Sigel St. Michael Headed To Class 7-1A State Tournament, Area Roundup

Sigel St. Michael is headed to the Class 7-1A State Boys Basketball Tournament after claiming a sectional championship Thursday evening.

St. Michael captured the championship of the Palestine Sectional over Windsor 38-16. The game has been moved to Stewardson-Strasburg.

St. Michael held a 19-8 half time lead then blanked Windsor 10-0 in the final quarter. Probst led the winners with 13 points while Wolke chipped in with nine. Nichols led Windsor with six.

St. Michael advances with a 20-2 record while Windsor ended the season at 17-6. St. Michael will face Gifford (16-0) at 10 a.m. Saturday at the state tournament at St. Joseph Middle School.

At Effingham

Effingham saw its season come to an end Thursday in the Class 7-4A Sectional championship game at Effingham Junior High School.

The Mustangs fell to Champaign Franklin 45-32. Franklin used an 11-1 second quarter advantage to build a 10 point halftime lead. Effingham played hard but was unable to recover from that second quarter.

The Mustangs were led by Landon Wolfe with 14 points and Dylan Bushur with eight. Zach Lee contributed six points and nine rebounds. Effingham ends the season with a 16-3 record.

Games Tonight:

Effingham St. Anthony will be taking on Nokomis tonight for the championship of the Class 7-2A Raymond Lincolnwood Sectional. The Bullpups are 18-1 while Nokomis is 18-3. Game time is 6 p.m.

The Class 7-3A Sectional at Marshall will feature Teutopolis against Red Hill (Bridgeport) for the championship. T-town is 15-5 while Red Hill is 17-1. Game time is 6 p.m.
