Newton, Beecher City Nab Boys Basketball Wins

NEWTON -- Newton High School claimed a 47-31 non-conference victory over Stewardson-Strasburg in boys basketball competition Monday evening.

The Eagles had two players finish in double figures. Brock Mammoser tallied 15 and Caleb Chestnut scored 13. The Eagles held a 19-14 halftime lead then had an 18-4 third quarter run as Chesnut tallied 10 of his 13 points.

Leading Stew-Stras were Mark Jones, Bryse Bugger and Jason Fry with eight points each.

At Ramsey

Cowden-Herrick was tied with Ramsey after the first quarter but trailed going into the final period. The Hornets then had a 20-7 run to pull out the 53-46 win over the Rams.

Ramsey held a 24-22 halftime lead and a 39-33 lead going into the final quarter. The Hornets were led by Barnes with 24 points while Burrus chipped in with nine.

At Beecher City

With a 19-6 opening quarter lead, Beecher City went on to down Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 59-45 Monday evening.

Austin Rexroad dominated in the scoring department with 27 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds and had two steals. Adam Doty and Jackson Bales chipped in with nine pionts each. Andrew Lagerhausen led in rebounds with nine while Brandon Gardner had eight. Bales led in assists with five.

The Eagles are now 9-8 on the season.

At Dieterich

Flora came calling at Dieterich and handed the Maroons a 61-50 non-conference loss Monday evening.

The Wolves led 19-12 after the opening quarter and 29-21 at halftime. Dieterich came back with a 15-13 third period run to pull within 42-36 but the Wolves had a 19-14 final period surge.

Pearce tallied 24 points while Smith and Leib added 14 each. Dieterich was led by Traub with 14, Aherin with 12 and Bohnhoff with 10.
