Girls, Boys Frosh/Soph Results From Weekend

The Apollo Conference Freshman/Sophomore Girls Basketball Tournament opened play during the weekend at Mount Zion and Salem high schools.
In the South Division, Salem defeated Effingham 53-26, Charleston won over Effingham 57-29 and Salem downed Charleston 54-46.
In the North Division, Mattoon defeated Mount Zion, no score reported, Teutopolis bounced Mount Zion 67-16 and Teutopolis downed Mattoon 54-39.
The finals are scheduled for Saturday at Effingham High School. In the championship game, Teutopolis faces Salem at 12:30 p.m. The third place game will feature Charleston taking on Mattoon at 11:15 a.m. and the fifth place contest will have Effingham squaring off against Mount Zion at 10 a.m.
Teutopolis is taking the place of Paris who did not have enough players.

At St. Anthony
Effingham St. Anthony edged Neoga 57-55 in a freshman boys basketball contest Saturday.
St. Anthony stepped out to an 18-9 opening quarter lead and led 31-25 at halftime. Neoga came roaring back to pull within 42-41 going into the final period. St. Anthony then had a slight 15-14 edge.
Jeff Niebrugge led the Bulldogs with 19 points while Gibson chipped in with 10. Neoga was led by Caleb Abernathy with 17, Trevor Easton with 16 and Ronnie Kersey with 14.

In a girls freshman contest, Teutopolis defeated Effingham 52-24. Jamie Sandschafer led the way with 20 points while Shelby Thompson added 12.
Effingham was led by Rieman with nine points.
