St. Anthony Claims Junior High Regional Title

St. Anthony claimed the championship of its own seventh-grade basketball regional Wednesday evening. Effingham St. Anthony claimed the championship of the Class 7-2A St. Anthony Regional Wednesday evening at Goff Gym.

The Bullpups trailed Altamont 11-10 after the opening quarter but came back for a 22-19 halftime lead. St. Anthony then decided to put the contest away in the third quarter with a 20-2 run and won 52-28.

Blanchette scored 18 and Milleville 12 for the winners. Biggs led Altamont with 10.

St. Anthony advances to the Lincolnwood Sectional Wednesday, February 5 against Nokomis at 6 p.m. Nokomis downed Raymond Lincolnwood 23-13 in the Ramsey Regional.

Class 7-3A Tuscola Regional

Teutopolis and Cumberland advanced to the title game of the Class 7-3A Tuscola East Prairie Regional with victories Wednesday evening.

Teutopolis pounded Shelbyville 44-14. The Wooden Shoes took a 13-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Josh Hardiek and Dawson Smith provided the one-two scoring punch with 13 and 12 points respectively.

In the opening contest of the evening, Cumberland edged Tuscola East Prairie 37-35.

T-town will now face Cumberland tonight for the regional championship at 6:30.

Class 7-4A Charleston Regional

Champaign Jefferson and Champaign Edison picked up victories in the Charleston 7-4A Regional Wednesday evening.

Champaign Jefferson defeated Charleston 31-16 in the opening contest. In the second game, Champaign Edison beat  Tolono Unity 34-18.

Champaign Jefferson advances to meet Effingham tonight at 6 followed by Champaign Edison against Mattoon at 7:15. The winners advance to the title contest Friday at 6 p.m.
