Wooden Shoes Advance at Nashville, MTC Roundup

NASHVILLE -- Teutopolis High School opened at the Nashville Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament with a victory Wednesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes defeated Freeburg 53-47. T-town held a 7-6 opening quarter lead but Freeburg knotted the score at halftime at 14-14. T-town then had a 17-10 third quarter run and held off Freeburg in the final quarter.

Reed Hardiek tallied 17 and Brett Mette 15 for the Shoes. Feeburg was led by Justin Diecker with 14, Jacob Mueller with 13 and Jack Kemper with 10.

The second game went to Breese Mater Dei over Trenton Wesclin 63-60.

Tonight's contests in consolation bracket play feature Mascoutah against Nashville at 6:30 and Freeburg taking on Trenton Wesclin at 8. In winner bracket play Friday, Waterloo Gibault meets Breese Central at 6:30 and Teutopoliis takes on Breese Mater Dei at 8.

Tickets for Teutopolis fans will be sold today at the high school office. The second hour, tournament players, managers, other boy basketball players and cheerleaders; lunch hour, student tickets with seniors first then juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Students will be allowed to buy one for themselves.

Teutopolis tickets for the game Friday evening will be sold today at four p.m. to reserved gold seat holders and afterwards to the public until 5 p.m. or until sold out. There are plenty of seats at the door. The tickets being sold today are chair seats and prime spots.

Tickets for Saturday's game will be sold immediately after the game at Nashville Friday evening. There will be no tickets sold at T-town for the Saturday game.

Midland Trail Conference Tournament

Three games were contested in consolation bracket play at the Midland Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament Wednesday.

In the ninth place contest, Grayville defeated Webber Township (Bluford) 57-46.

Cisne then won over Sandoval 65-53 and North Clay (Louisville) downed Clay City 56-48. Cisne and North Clay move into the consolation championship game Friday at 6:30 p.m.

In games tonight, Woodlawn faces Waltonville at 6:30 followed by Odin against Wayne City at 8. The winners advance to the championship Saturday at 7 p.m. The losers drop into the third place game Friday at 8 p.m.
