Neoga, St. Michael Win at NTC Eighth-Grade Meet, Jr. High Roundup

ST. ELMO -- Neoga and Sigel St. Michael picked up victories in consolation bracket action at the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

Neoga held a 25-16 halftime lead then had a 10-3 third period run over Windsor to pull out a 45-33 win.

Ramert tallied 13 and Hill 11 for the winners. Windsor was led by G. Bennett with 12.

In the second contest, Cowden-Herrick edged out to a 12-11 first half lead. St. Michael edged C-H 11-10 in the third period then had an 18-9 final quarter run to pull out a 40-31 victory.

Wolke tallied 16, nine in the final quarter run and 14 in the second half. Kreke chipped in with 10. Cowden-Herrick was led by Barfield with nine.

At Greenville

In the 66th Annual James Burke Memorial Tournament in Greenville, consolation bracket action was contested Tuesday evening.

Salem edged Hillsboro 43-40 in the opener and Greenville won over Aviston 40-32. Salem will now face Greenville Friday at 5 p.m. for the consolation championship.

In tonight's games, Effingham faces Triad at 6 p.m. followed by Effingham St. Anthony against Carlyle at 7. The winners advance to the title contest Friday at 7 while the losers square off for third at 6 p.m.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis handed Effingham St. Anthony two losses in seventh and eighth grade B competition Tuesday evening.

T-town took a 30-20 win in seventh-grade action. Lucas Drees led the winners with nine points. St. Anthony was led by W. Niebrugge with six.

In eighth-grade action, T-town was a 26-18 winner. Ian Addis led the way with seven points. Seachrest led St. Anthony with five points.
