Marshall, Flora Move Into LIC Girls Tourney Title Game

FLORA -- Marshall and Flora advanced to the championship game of the Little Illini Conference Girls Basketball Tournament with victories Tuesday evening at Flora Higih School.
Marshall opened the evening with a 45-32 win over Newton. Marshall took the early 15-4 lead and that lead held up as the two teams went 8-8 in the second quarter and 10-10 in the third period. Marshall had a slight 12-10 final quarter edge.
Grooms tallied 20 for the winners. Richards led Newton with nine points.
Iin the second game, Flora was a 58-48 winner over Olney. The Wolves trailed Olney 39-33 going into the final period then had a whopping 25-9 run to pull out the 10-point victory.
Marshall will face Flora at 8 p.m. Thursday for the championship while Newton and Olney square off for third place at 6:30 p.m. Tonight's games feature Palestine/Hutsonville against Red Hill (Bridgeport) in consolation bracket play at 6 p.m. Casey-Westfield takes on North Clay (Louisville) at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to the consolation championship Thursday at 5 p.m.
