EHS, Centralia Pick Up First Night Wins at Effingham Girls Tourney

Effingham and Centralia were opening round winners in the 13th Annual Effingham High School Girls Round Robin Basketball Tournament Monday evening.
Centrallia opened the evening with a 45-41 victory over Effingham St. Anthony. The Orphan Annies took a 14-9 opening quarter lead and led 28-19 at halftime. St. Anthony came back with a 10-9 third period edge and outscored Centralia 12-8 in the final period but it was too little, too late.
Holtkamp led the winners with 18 points. The Bulldogs were led by K. Richards with 16 and Nuxoll with 12.
In the second game, Effingham defeated Neoga 44-33. The teams were tied at 6-6 after the opening quarter and 18-18 at halftime. Efifngham finally edged ahead 32-28 after the third quarter and outscored the Indians 12-5.
Josie Zerrusen tallied 15 for the winners. Deters led Neoga with 12.
The tournament continues tonight, weather permitting, with Dieterich against Centralia at 6:15 and Effingham facing St. Anthony at 7:45. KJ Country 102.3 will carry the EHS vs. St. Anthony contest.
