St. A, T-town Nab F/S Boys Tourney Wins; EHS Wins Twice

Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis picked up opening round victories in the St. Anthony Boys Freshman Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

The Bulldogs captured a 65-60 win over Altamont. St. Anthony held a 13-10 opening quarter lead but the score was tied at 30-30 at halftime. St. Anthony moved ahead 48-44 going into the final period but the Indians came back to tie the score at 58-58 sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Dust connected on two field goals while Walk hit a basket and Gibson a free throw as the Bulldogs pulled out the win.

Gibson finished with 19 points while Greene and Dust had 16 each. Altamont was led by Shepard with 17, Cornett with 14 and Finn with 13.

Teutopolis claimed a 58-48 win over Flora. The Wooden Shoes led 24-18 at halftime then had a 34-30 second half lead for the 10 point win.

Blake Mette scored 20 and Lucas Deters tallied 14 for the winners. Flora was led by Trevin Smith with 19, Chris Scott with 14 and Jeffry Gaither with 11.

At Effingham

Effingham downed Charleston in both freshman and sophomore action Monday evening.

In the freshman contest, the Hearts won 64-47. Jacob Donaldson scored 21 and Grant Wolfe 18 in the victory.

In the sophomore contest, Effingham trailed 20-14 at halftime but came back with a 13-5 third quarter run and claimed a 37-30 win. Sean Zerrusen tallied 11 for the winners.
