Effingham splits with Mattoon in junior high boys basketball competition Saturday.
The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 34-32. Effingham scored with 13 seconds remaining in the game when Zach Lee hit Dylan Bushur for a layup. The Mustangs led by one at halftime and stretched that lead to five at the end of the third quarter. However, Mattoon did not go quietly and took a two point lead with approximately two minutes remaining.
Wolfe tallied 14 and Lee 10 for the winners who improve to 3-0 in the Apollo Conference, 12-0 overall.
In eighth-grade play, Mattoon edged Effingham 34-31. The Mustangs led 12-7 at halftime and 24-20 going into the final quarter. Mattoon then had a 14-7 run to pull out the victory.
Hull and Sandifer led in scoring with 13 points each. The Mustangs drop to 10-2 on the season.

At Effingham Sacred Heart
Stewardson-Strasburg captured two wins over Effingham Sacred Heart.
Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade encounter 37-29. Stew-Stras took a 24-11 halftime lead. A. Burton tallied 17 and Kirby 10 for the winners. Bowlin led the Shamrocks with 10. Stew-Stras improves to 2-6 in the National Trail Conference, 4-13 overall.
In eighth-grade action, Stew-Stras won 52-16 by stepping out to a 21-5 opening quarter lead. Hansen tallied 13 for the winners. Sherrod and C. Helmink led Sacred Heart with four each. Stew-Stras improves to 8-0 in the conference, 11-4 overall.

St. Anthony tallied a 48-17 victory over Flora in seventh-grade play at Goff Gym Saturday.
The Bullpups took a 12-2 opening quarter lead and had a 17-5 final period run. Blanchette led the way with 19 points while Brandenburger added 10.
St. Anthony now sports a 13-0 record.

At Teutopolis
In the Teutopolis Junior High Round Robins, T-town won the seventh-grade with a 2-0 record followed by ESL Clark 1-1 and Centralia 0-2.
In the eighth-grade, Centralia won with a 2-0 mark followed by T-town 1-1 and ESL Clark 0-2.
In seventh-grade action, T-town downed Centralia 29-6. Tyler Runde taliled eight to lead the winners. In game two, East St. Louis Clark blasted Centralia 51-14. In the final contest, T-town won over ESL Clark 36-20. Dawson Smith scored 13 and Josh Hardiek 12.
In eighth-grade play, Centralia beat T-town 57-30. Lee Hardiek scored 10 for T-town. Centralia then beat ESL Clark 47-23. T-town then won over ESL Clark 64-48. Ethyn Dust and Hardiek scored 14 each while Landon Jansen added 11.
