T-town, Neoga Girls Take Third in Tourneys, St. A Fifth

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs won the fifth place game at the Mattoon Girls Holiday Tournament Saturday.

St. Anthony won over Vandalia 45-40 in overtime.  

Megan Nuxoll scored 13 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.  Morgan Gardewine and Kate Richards each added nine points, Lauren Wendt, Maggie Mumm and Hunter Niebrugge each added four points, and Abby Brown scored two points.

The Lady Bulldogs lost their first two games of the tournament, but then won their final three games to finish 3-2 for the event and improve to 10-3 on the season.

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes finished third at the Edwardsville Girls Tournament.

Teutopolis lost their semifinal game to Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 69-61 in double overtime Saturday morning.  The Lady Shoes bounced back though, defeating Jacksonville 39-18 in the third place game.  T-Town led 23-0 at halftime over Jacksonville.

In the win over Sacred Heart-Griffin, Madeline Hartke went over the 1,000 point total for her career by scoring 34. Also in double figures was Danielle Repking with 10.

In the third place contest, T-town held Jacksonville scoreless in the first half while taking a 23-0 lead. Hartke tallied 15 more points to lead the Shoes.

Neoga's girls edged Monticello 58-57 for third place honors at the Monticello Holiday Hoopla Saturday. The score was tied at 30-30 at halftime. The Indians edged ahead 47-46 going into the final period and held that lead to pull out the win.

Buzan tallied 28 for Neoga while Caldwell chipped in with 18.

In the boys contest, Neoga fell to Farmer City Blue Ridge 69-31 in the third place contest. Farmer City Blue Ridge jumped out to a 20-4 opening quarter lead and that was the game.

Neoga was led by J. Baker with 11 points.
