The Teutopolis Shoes broke open a close game with a big second half, especially defensively, as they defeated the St. Anthony Bulldogs Monday night 45-16 at J.H. Griffin Gym.  It was the Purple Out game, designed to raise funds for the families of Teutopolis High School students Devin Mette and Eddie Siemer, each of whom is battling cancer.  The contest was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

The first half was a close battle with the Lady Shoes leading throughout, but never by more than eight points. T-Town was up 10-4 after the opening quarter, but St. Anthony outpointed the Lady Shoes 8-6 in the second quarter and stood within 16-12 at the half.

The second half was a different story, though.  Teutopolis outscored the Lady Bulldogs 12-2 in the third quarter to lead 28-14 and then outpointed the Bulldogs 17-2 in the final stanza to win by 29.

Teutopolis made 17 of 36 shots for 47% but shot 50% in the second half.  It was a rough night at the line for the Shoes, making eight of 18.  T-Town turned the ball over just 11 times and just five times in the second half while pulling down 21 rebounds and making three of six three-point tries.

St. Anthony made just seven of 29 shots for 24% and made one of just two foul shots in the game.  25 turnovers hurt the Bulldogs' cause but they outrebounded T-Town 22-21.  St. Anthony made just one of 11 three-point tries.
