(ST. ANTHONY HOMECOMING KING JOHN GOECKNER AND QUEEN LANE STEPPE)

The St. Anthony Bulldogs made it a happy Homecoming Tuesday night with a 54-34 boys basketball win over the Beecher City Eagles.

The game at the Enlow Center was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

St. Anthony shot the ball well and forced a number of Beecher City turnovers in the first quarter, leading 21-10 at the end of the period.  That pretty much decided the game.  Beecher City got back within six at one point, but at another point trailed the Bulldogs by 25 points.  It was 32-19 at halftime and 43-23 after three quarters.

St. Anthony made 40% of its shots from the field, hitting 21 of 52.  They made six of nine foul shots, turned the ball over just 10 times and pulled down 32 rebounds while hitting six of 16 three-point tries.

Beecher City hit 13 of 34 shots for 38% while going just six of 14 from the foul line, committing 16 turnovers and pulling down 20 rebounds while making two of eight three-point shots.

Neil Williams led St. Anthony in scoring with 14 points including four made three-point shots.  John Goeckner scored 12 and was named Homecoming King.  Alex Hoelscher scored eight points, all in the first half, but pulled down 14 rebounds.

Also for St. Anthony: Andrew Gardewine eight, Zach Gardewine six, Eric Gurtner three, Matt Gibson two, and Connor Greene one.

Brady Barnes led Beecher City with 12 points, all in the first half.

Also for the Eagles: Austin Rexroad, Andrew Lagerhausen and Jacob Kenter with four points each, Westen Giles three, Brandon Gardner, Adam Doty and Daniel Harder each with two points, and Jackson Bales one.

St. Anthony is back to .500 at 3-3 while Beecher City suffered its first loss to slip to 2-1 on the season.

Both teams are on the road Friday; the Bulldogs at St. Elmo to play St. Elmo/Brownstown, and the Eagles at Dieterich for Homecoming.

St. Anthony won the JV game 71-23.
