Wooden Shoes Claim Salem Girls Basketball Championship

SALEM -- Teutopolis claimed two victories Saturday and won the 13th Annual Salem Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament championship.

T-town defeated Salem, 39-28 to reach the title game. The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 21-10 first half lead. M. Hartke led T-town with 11 points while Thompson added 10.

In the championship game, T-town edged out to a 20-13 halftime lead against Bethalto Civic Memorial. Civic Memorial then came back with a 6-4 third period lead to pull within 24-19 and outscored the Shoes 17-12 in the fourth period to knot the score at 36-36.

In the overtime, T-town connected on seven of nine free throws and outscored Civic Memorial 9-3 for the victory.

Thompson led the way with 18 points for the Shoes.
