Effingham Remains Undefeated w/Win at Newton Tourney

The Effingham Lady Hearts pushed their record to 4-0 with an impressive 72-15 win Friday over the Cumberland Lady Pirates at the Bob Kerans Newton Girls Basketball Tournament.

Effingham led 31-0 after the first quarter, 41-2 at halftime and 63-11 after three quarters.

Lady Hearts Coach Jeff Schafer said, "We came out and played an incredible first quarter and continued to execute for 32 minutes.  I'm proud of our unselfish play and how we shared the ball and got everyone involved.  Now, we need a really good effort Saturday vs. Newton."

Caitlin Kaufman with 19 points and Stephanie Robb with 18 points led Effingham.  Josie Zerrusen was also in double figures with 13 points.

Effingham, 3-0 in the tournament, will play Newton today at 1:30pm.

Also Friday at Newton, Mt. Zion won over Flora 47-33 and Mt. Zion defeated Newton 47-37.
