Effingham Moves Into Regional Title, T-town Claims Crown

MATTOON --  Effingham Junior High School moved into the championship game of the Class 7-4A Mattoon Girls Basketball Regional with a victory Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs downed Champaign Jefferson 43-33. Effingham held a 23-16 halftime lead and outscored Jefferson 11-6 in the third period.

Fearday tallied 21 for the winners while Weis added nine and Schafer eight. The Mustangs are now 19-1 on the season and will square off against Charleston, a 24-11 winner over Mattoon, at 6 p.m. today for the regional championship.

Class 7-3A Altamont Regional

Teutopolis captured the championship of this regional with a 22-16 victory over host Altamont Tuesday evening.

T-town held a 9-4 opening quarter lead and led 14-10 at halftime. Altamont mounted a third quarter comeback to pull within 17-16 going into the final period but T-town's defense held Altamont scoreless while the offense tallied five points for the win.

Niemerg led the way for T-town with 11 points. Altamont was led by Schultz with eight.

T-town now advances to the Cumberland Sectoinal Wednesday, December 4 at 6 p.m. to face Edwards County (Albion). Edwards County defeated Lawrenceville Parkview 24-20 to win its own regional Tuesday evening.

Class 7-2A Assumption Central A&M Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor advances to face Central A&M for the regional championship after both teams captured victories Tuesday evening.

Stew-Stras/Windsor defeated Beecher City-Cowden-Herrick 19-12. Stew-Stras/Windsor led 8-4 at halftime. Schlechte tallied eight points to lead the winners. BCCH was led by Wojcik with six. Stew-Stras/Windsor is now 16-5 on the season.

In the other semifinal, Central A&M defeated Nokomis 38-13. Stew-Stras/Windsor meets Central A&M tonight at 6 for the regional title.
