Bulldogs Beat Eagles, Girls Basketball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School headed to Newton and claimed a 61-29 win in girls varsity basketball competition Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs stepped out to a 13-1 opening quarter lead and led 24-11 at halftime. St. Anthony then had a 19-8 third period run.

Nuxoll led St. Anthony with 13 points while K. Richards chipped in with 11. The Eagles were led by Cartright with nine points.

In the junior varsity game, Newton was a 30-28 winner.

At Altamont

Charleston captured a 57-47 victory over host Altamont Thursday evening.

The Trojans broke a 7-7 first quarter tie with a 20-13 second period run and outscored Altamont 18-10 in the third period.

Morgan Sherwood led the Trojans with 16 points and seven boards. Dakota Crowder added 12 points and Erin Story 11. Altamont was led by M. Ohnesorge with 10 points.

In the junoir varsity contest, Charleston edged Altamont 31-29.

Central A&M took a 27-6 opening quarter lead and never looked back. CHBC was led by Chandler Ward with seven points and Summer Riley with six.

In junior varsity action, Central A&M was a 61-25 winner.

Dieterich traveled to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran and handed the host squad a 53-34 loss.

The Movin' Maroons pushed ahead 23-19 at halftime and outscored Christ Our Rock 30-15 in the second half. Courtney Flach led the charge with 19 points while Kallee Rae Heuerman tallied 15. Mallorie Vahling pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Flach had nine assists while Elizabeth Abbott led in steals with four.

Sabrina Maschhoff led Christ Our Rock Lutheran with 14 points.

Christ Our Rock Lutheran beat Dieterich 37-31 in junoir varsity action.

Neoga edged Arcola 62-58 in a non-conference contest Thursday. The Indians led 34-28 at halftime. Arcola came back with an 18-11 third period run to pull ahead 46-45 but Neoga came back with a 17-12 final period score to pull out the victory.

Jillian Deters tallied 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the winners. Butler chipped in with 20 points. Neoga improves to 1-1.
