CHBC, T-town Claim Opening Season Girls Basketball Wins

FARINA -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City opened the girls high school basketball season with a 39-26 win over South Central Monday evening.

The Hornets opened with a 14-2 first period run and never looked back. Kirby Herrmann was the lone player in double digits with 10. Ashley Miller chipped in with nine for the winners and Jensyn Morrison added eight.

CHBC fell in the junior varsity contest 29-23 in overtime.

Teutopolis pounded Sullivan 67-24 in opening action Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 37-12 halftime lead. Eleven players hit the scoreboard for the Shoes with Thompson leading the way with 11 and Hardiek chipping in with 10. Schumacher added nine and Repking and Hartke had eight each.

Moweaqua Central A&M handed Neoga a 79-59 non-conference loss Monday evening.

Central A&M held a 35-31 lead at halftime then had a 39-28 run in the second half. E.C. Thies tallied 21 points for the Indians while Olivia Ott scored 18.
