Effingham Downs T-town, St. Anthony Wins Twice Jr. High Boys Roundup

Effingham improved to 3-0 on the season with a come-from-behind 44-38 victory over visiting Teutopolis in junior high boys basketball action Thursday evening.
T-town held a four point lead going into the fourth quarter but Effingham outscored T-town 17-5 in the final period for the victory. Landon Wolfe and Zach Lee led the charge for the Mustangs with 16 and 10 points respectively.
"Both squads, players, cheerleaders and coaches would like to thank Dr. Chuck Schumacher for providing pizza for everyone after the game," said seventh-grade coach Mike Walker.
In eighth-garde play, Teutopolis was a winner 43-40. T-town held a 16-12 hafltime lead and had a 14-8 third period to lead 30-20 at halftime. Effingham came back with an 18-8 run to tie the score, sending the game into overtime. T-town then outscored the Mustangs 5-2.
Lee Hardiek led T-town with 16 points while Collin Funneman chipped in with 12. Effingham was led by Ryan Sandifer with 17. Effingham drops to 2-1.

Effingham St. Anthony trounced Newton St. Thomas 64-12 in seventh-grade action to improve to 4-0 on the season. Twelve players scored for the Bullpups and were led by Guy with nine, Brandenburger and Wall with eight each.
In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony was a 45-12 winner. Utz tallied 12 and Beesley 10.

Effingham Sacred Heart claimed the seventh-grade victory over Beecher City, 31-14.
The Shamrocks won 31-14. W. Swingler tallied 16 for the winners. Beecher City was led by Stewart with six.

Altamont and Sigel St. Michael split wins in action Thursday evening.
St. Michael claimed the sevneth-grade contest 38-32. St. Michael took a 20-14 halftime lead and held off Altamont in the final quarter. Z. Wolke tallied 11 and P. Probst 10 for the winners. Altamont was led by Alek Biggs with 21 points.
In eighth-grade play, Altamont claimed a 53-37 win. Brandon Runge scored 20 for Altamont while Nate Brown chipped in with 15. St. Michael was led by Z. Wolke with 13 and C. Kreke with 10.
