Sacred Heart, Effingham Claim Boys Junior High Wins

Effingham Sacred Heart picked up victories over St. Peter Lutheran in boys junior high basketball play Tuesday evening.

The Shamrocks trailed St. Peter 14-2 after the opening quarter and 16-12 at halftime but came back in the second half to outscore the Saints 18-4 for a 30-20 victory.

H. Rogers tallied eight for the winners while five others scored. H. Brandt led St. Peter with 14.

In the eighth-grade contest, Sacred Heart was a 40-24 winner. C. Helmink scored 19 for the Shamrocks. L. Bergmann had 12 for St. Peter.

At Effingham

Effingham's seventh-graders captured a 52-20 victory over visiting Mount Zion. The Mustangs jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and extended that to 31-9 by halftime. Effingham is now 2-0 on the season.

Landon Wolfe and Zach Lee led the Mustangs with 19 and 12 respectively.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham edged Mount Zion 47-45. Three players hit the double digit mark, Mason Hull with 12, Alec Morrissey with 11 and Adam Levitt with 10. Ryan Sandifer led in steals with six. Terrence Hill had eight rebounds and Hull seven.

The Mustangs trailed 11-10 at halftime and 35-34 going into the final quarter then outscored Mount Zion 13-10.
