Sacred Heart Wins Eighth-Grade Girls Tourney, Area Roundup

STRASBURG -- Effingham Sacred Heart claimed the championship of the Stewardson-Strasburg Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.
Sacred Heart won its opening contest by edging Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 14-13 to advance to the title contest. Cumberland downed Effingham St. Anthony 22-12.
The Shamrocks then beat Cumberland 33-22 in the title contest. Mills tallied 10 points for the winners. Baker led Cumberland with eight.
In the third place game, St. Anthony downed Stew-Stras/Windsor 17-7. Kinkelaar led the Bullpups with four points while a total of seven players scored. Schlechte led Stew-Stras/Windsor with five.

At Teutopolis
In Friday competition, Teutopolis split with Casey-Westfield. T-town was a winner in seventh-grade play 28-4. Morgan Mette tallied six points.
In eighth-grade action, Casey-Westfield was a 32-26 winner. Marianna Hemmen scored 15 for T-town.
T-town then took part in the Monticello Shootout Saturday. In seventh-grade play, T-town won over Monticello 35-25 and then downed El Paso-Gridley 26-10.
In eighth-grade play, T-town lost to Monticello 36-11 and edged El Paso-Gridley 25-24.

Altamont picked up two victories over Greenville Friday. Altamont was a 27-7 winner in seventh-grade action.
L. Mayhaus tallied 15 for the winners.
In eighth-grade play, Altamont won 43-9 with a 29-4 first half lead. J. Hosick and S. Stone tallied 12 each for the winners.
