Heat Smother Bulls

(Miami, FL) -- The Heat's quest for a third straight NBA Championship began by locking up Derrick Rose and the Bulls, 107-95, at AmericanAirlines Arena. Miami held Rose to 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting and five turnovers in his return to the court after missing all of last season. The former number one pick says he expects to get better.

LeBron James led a balanced Heat attack with 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds. The Heat went on a 31-to-5 run in the first half that Chicago was never able to recover from. Six other Miami players scored in double figures and the Heat hit 11-of-20 from behind the arc as a team. Jimmy Butler posted a game-high 20 points in the loss.

Lakers Smack Clippers

(Los Angeles, CA) -- It was supposed to be a changing of the guard, but it was just like old times at the STAPLES Center Tuesday night as the NBA season kicked off. The Lakers mopped the floor with the Clippers, 116-103, behind 76 points from their bench. Center Pau Gasol says they are concentrating on having success.

Xavier Henry scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Pau Gasol added 15 points and 13 rebounds. DeAndre Jordan posted 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in the loss.  Chris Paul filled up the box score with 15 points, 11 assists, six boards and five steals.

Pacers Bounce Magic In Home Opener

(Indianapolis, IN) -- The Pacers blocked 18 shots and held the Magic to 39-percent shooting as Indiana grabbed a 97-87 win at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the opener for both teams. Roy Hibbert had seven of those blocks to go with eight points and 16 rebounds. Paul George added 24 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Lance Stephenson tallied 19 points, seven boards and five helpers. Orlando kept the game interesting by outscoring the Pacers, 26-17, in the second quarter to go into the half up by four, but were outscored by 14 following the intermission.  Rookie Victor Oladipo posted 12 points in his NBA debut. Andrew Nicholson paced the Magic in the loss with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
