Effingham Wins Laugher in Seventh Grade Game, Nip and Tuck Eighth Grade Game, Falls To Charleston

Effingham pitched a shutout in the seventh grade game in girls junior high basketball Friday night, defeating Salem Franklin Park 37-0, but came from behind in the fourth quarter to win the eighth grade game, 30-28.
In the seventh grade game, Effingham scored 22 points in the first quarter, nine in the second quarter, four in the third quarter and two in the fourth quarter.
Scoring for Effingham: Fox 9, Fearday 6, Buscher 6, Gephart 5, Weis 3, Schafer 2, Herboth 2, Kuhlman 2 and Koester 2.
In the eighth grade game, the teams were tied 6-6 after one quarter, Salem led 13-8 at halftime and Salem was up 21-20 after three quarters before Effingham outscored Salem 10-7 in the fourth quarter to post the come-from-behind victory.
Scoring for Effingham: Armstrong 14, Myers 9, Barr 5 and Ramos 2.
Effingham's seventh graders are 9-0 while the eighth graders are 8-1.
In Saturday action, Charleston picked up two victories over Effingham. In seventh-grade play, Charleston was a 31-25 winner. Fox led the Mustangs with eight points. The loss was the first in 10 games for the Mustangs.
In eighth-grade play, Charleston won 46-34. Armstrong tallied 13 and Myers 12. The Mustangs fall to 8-2.
