St. Anthony Claims 8-2A State Tourney, T-town Finishes Second In Class 3A State

Effingham St. Anthony won the Class 8-2A State Boys Basketball Tournament.
KANKAKEE -- Effingham St. Anthony won the Class 8-2A State Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening at Kankakee Bishop McNamara.
The Bullpups trounced Camp Point Central, 39-13. St .Anthony ran out to a 12-0 opening quarter lead and still held Camp Point Central scoreless in the second period for a 17-0 halftime tally.
St. Anthony then had a 22-13 second half.
Charlie Bierman and Blake Verdeyen finished with 12 points each. Bierman hit five field goals, two from three-point range, while Verdeyen hit three field goals and six of eight at the line. Verdeyen finished with a total of 44 points for the whole tournament while Bierman added 20 and Curtis Tingley 13.
Camp Point Central was led by Braxton Kestner with seven.
In the third place contest, Oglesby Washington won over Green Valley Midwest Central, 45-37.
There will be a firetruck ride on Third Street beginning at 2:15 p.m. and will end at the grade school with a welcome home.

At East St. Louis
Teutopolis fell to East St. Louis Lincoln, 52-42 to finish second in the Class 8-3A State Tournament at East St. Louis Lincoln.
The Wooden Shoes held a 16-12 opening quarter lead but Lincoln came back with a 13-6 second period to lead 25-22 at halftime.
Lincoln continued on with a 15-10 third quarter to lead 40-32 and finished out with a 12-10 final period.
T-town was led by Blake NIemerg with 22 points on 10 field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line. Also in double figures was Sam Probst with 10.
ESL Lincoln was led by Emurion Jackson with 23, Marquis Howliett with 11 and Dallas Davis with 11.
T-town ended the season with a 23-7 record.
Third place went to Calumet City Schrum over Germantown Hills, 55-30.
There will be a Welcome Home Celebration for the Wooden Shoes Sunday, Feb. 23. The junior high gym will be open for families to take pictures with the plaques and trophy from 12:15-1 p.m. At 1 p.m., a fire truck ride will start at Teutopolis Junior High School and end at the Teutopolis Banquet Hall.
Cake will be served in the hall for all family members following the fire truck ride.
