MATTOON -- Teutopolis held a 31-27 halftime lead but Mattoon came back within a point in the third quarter. The Wooden Shoes put on a 15-6 final quarter run to claim a 61-51 victory Tuesday evening in boys high school basketball.

T-town edged out to a 15-14 opening quarter lead behind two three-pointers by Landyn Thoele and five of six as five players walked to the free throw line.

Mick Niebrugge connected on three baskets and Isaac McWhorter and Henry Thompson scored on a three-pointer each as T-town pushed into a 31-27 halftime lead

The Green Wave fought back with an 18-15 third quarter to pull within 46-45. Lincoln Hayes hit a basket and was six of six at the free throw line for eight points while Jaylen Middleton and Tyler Haacke connected on a three-pointer each.

But T-town got back on track with a 15-6 final quarter. Alex Kremer and Niebrugge put in a basket and was two of two at the line each for five points while Thoele hit a basket and was two of two at the line for four.

Three players finished in double digits for the Shoes. Kremer tallied five field goals, one from three-point range, and was six of eight at the line for 17. Niebrugge and Thoele finished with 13 each and Thompson was on the verge of double figures with nine.

Mattoon's Hayes tallied 20 points on six field goals and six of eight at the line while Middleton added 10.

In the junior varsity game, T-town was an 82-52 winner. Thirteen players scored for the Shoes led by Jason Kreke with 12 points. Gavin Buening and L. Thoele ended with nine each.

At Ramsey

St. Elmo/Brownstown had four players hit double figures in an 86-52 victory over Ramsey Tuesday evening.

The Eagles' Graiden Wilhour headed SEB in the right direction with an 11-point opening quarter run as he tallied on a regular basket and three from beyond the arc. Jayden Hughett added eight points on a regular basket and two three-pointers. Also hitting a trifecta was Lowell Wilhour.

In the second quarter, L. Wilhour went on a run, scoring nine points as SEB moved into a 46-23 halftime lead.

G. Wilhour finished with eight field goals, three from trifecta land and was two of four at the line for 21 points. Hughett and L. Wilhour tallied 18 points each and Jack Wilhour added 14.

Westin Neilson was raining three-pointers in the net as South Central won over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville, 68-35 Tuesday evening.

Neilson connected on one in the opening quarter then followed up with four in the second period as the Cougars led 36-20 at halftime. He then hit three more in the third period and finished out with one in the final quarter for nine in the contest and a total of 29 points. He hit one regular basket.

Also in double figures were Brody Markley with 16 points and Callaway Smith with 13.

The Cougars tallied 13 total three-pointers.

At Woodlawn

Dieterich's Lucas Westendorf went on a tear as the Maroons downed Woodlawn, 70-53 Tuesday evening.

Westendorf connected on seven baskets in the opening quarter for 13 of his team's 19 points. Westendorf hit three regular baskets and a three-pointer. Landen Keck added the other two baskets.

The lead stood at 35-19 at halftime as Westendorf added another six points and Bryce Bohnhoff put in five and Brock Niemerg hit a three.

The two teams played to a 16-16 third quarter and Woodlawn came back with a 20-18 final quarter run but it was too little, too late.

Westendorf finished with 34 ponts on 16 field goals, one a three-pointer, and was one of two at the line. Also in double figures were B. Niemerg with 11 and Keck with 10.

At Villa Grove

Cumberland finished the Lincoln Prairie Conference regular season with a perfect 11-0 record for the title Tuesday evening with a 62-39 win over Villa Grove.

The Pirates took an 18-14 opening quarter lead as Chase Stewart scored two three-pointers for six and Kaleb Bierman also tallied six on two regular baskets and two free throws.

The lead went to 33-22 at halftime. Kade McMechan took over the scoring duties in the second period with six points while Stewart added another three-pointer.

Roedl tallied eight third quarter points in the 23-8 run. Stewart put in his final two three-pointers for six in the period while Kelby Bierman scored six and Isaac Venatta five.

Roedl finished with 18 points on nine field goals. Stewart added 15 on five three-pointers and Ke. Bierman ended with 12.

Cumberland is followed in the top four of the 12-team confernece standings by Arcola 9-1, Argenta-Oreana 8-2 and Okaw Valley 8-3.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) was a winner over Red Hill (Bridgeport) Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals won the varsity contest 88-40 to improve to 21-9 on the season.

They also won the junior varsity game, 62-44.

North Clay will finish out the regular season by hosting South Central during Senior Night festivities at 6 p.m. Friday.

 

At Newton

Casey-Westfield came calling and picked up a 65-37 win over Newton Tuesday evening.

The Warriors edged out to a 14-10 opening quarter lead behind two three-pointers by Ryan Richards.

The lead went to 24-18 at halftime and Hayden Parcel scored five points. Newton was led by Kody Bergbower with four.

The Warriors had a 19-10 third quarter. Newton hit only one basket in the period but put in eight of nine free throws. Bergbower hit a basket and was five of six at the line. Lance Volk added three of three free throws.

Casey-Westfield ended the contest with a 22-9 final quarter run on a barrage of three-pointers as five players connected from beyond the arc.

Parcel led the winners with 17 points while Richards and Jones added 11 each.

Newton was led by Bergbower with seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and eight of 11 at the line for 23. Volk chipped in wtih eight.

Neoga was led by Gavin Ray with 17 points on seven field goals and three of five at the line.
