North Clay, Altamont, St. Anthony, Neoga Win At NTC/CIC Shootout

ALTAMONT -- The National Trail Conference/Central Illinois Conference Shootout was held Saturday at Altamont High School with six games on tap.

In the opener, Neoga was a 52-48 winner over Mulberry Grove.

The Indians held a 20-5 opening quarter lead and led 35-28 at halftime. Mulberry Grove came back with a 20-17 second half but Neoga held on for the victory.

Gavin Ray led Neoga with 20 points on five field goals, one of those from three-point range, and nine of 14 at the line.

Mulberry Grove was led by J. Icenogle with 26 points.

Central A&M took a 61-51 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

A&M held a 27-14 halftime lead then went on a 21-17 third quarter run as Rhett McLain connected for 12 points and A. Spinner put in nine.

Remington Howell scored 11 of CHBC's 17 points in the third quarter on four regular baskets and a three-pointer.

The Bobcats had a 20-13 final quarter run as Griffin Vaughn took over with two three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 points and Howell added on another four points.

Vaughn finished with nine field goals, three from beyond the arc, for 21 points to lead CHBC. Howell chipped in with 16.

Central A&M was led by McLain with 23, Spinner with 21 and Rhodes with 11.

North Clay got the win for the NTC with a 78-76 edging of Mounds Meridian.

The Cardinals held a 23-19 opening quarter lead as Cody Zimdars scored 10, Mason Byers seven and Gavin Hosselton six.

Carder Walden scored seven while Byers added six more points.

Byers put in 10 in the third quarter but Meridian had a 25-17 count to pull within 60-57.

But CHBC held on in the final quarter for the two-point victory.

Byers finished with 21 on eight field goals and five of seven at the line for CHBC. Zimdars hit seven field goals, one a three-pointer and was five of eight at the line for 20. Walden added 15 and Hosselton 14.

Meridian also had four in double figures. Brown led the way with 23 points on eight field goals, seven of those from three-point range. Brown added 15, Denny 12 and Miller 12.

Game four went to Altamont over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 70-50.

Zaine Miller put in seven opening quarter points while Kade Milleville added five in an 18-14 lead.

The Indians then went on a 17-6 second period run to lead 35-20 at halftime.

Altamont continued on with a 35-30 second half for the 20-point win.

Four players finished in dobule figures as Miller led the way with 19 points on seven field goals, four of those from beyond the arc, and one of one at the line. Milleville added 18, Ben Roedl 15 and Cooper McManaway 13.

Blake Hanke led CORL with 15 points while Jayden Bazile and Christian Nollman added 12 each.

St. Anthony was the winner in game five over Shelbyville, 57-45.

The Bulldogs held a 25-20 halftime lead behind seven points from Ryan Schmidt and Brock Fearday.

Schmidt went on a nine-point run in the third quarter as St. Anthony had a 15-11 run to lead 40-31. The Bulldogs finished strong with a 17-14 final period. Schmidt scored 10 of those 17 points.

Schmidt was the lone player for the Bulldogs in double figures with nine field goals and a perfect eight of eight at the line for 26. Will Fearday was next with eight points.

Shelbyville was led by Hammond and Jokisch with 18 each.

In the final contest of the shootout, Tuscola edged Dieterich, 59-55.

The Warriors ripped out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead as Sweetnam connected on three trifectas.

But Dieterich came back with a 22-13 second quarter to pull within 33-30 at halftime. Landen Keck put in a three-pointer, two regular baskets and three of three at the line for 10 in the quarter and Lucas Westendorf added seven.

Bryce Bohnhoff took over the scoring in the third quarter 16-10 run. Bohnhoff hit two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight.

Tuscola came roaring back in the final period. Sweetnam scored 14 of his team's 16 points on three trifectas, a regular basket and three of six at the line. He finished with 24 to lead the win. Woodard scored 13 and James 12.

Dieterich was led by Keck with 19 on six field goals, two of those three-pointers and five of five at the line and Westendorf, also with 19 on eight field goals, two three-pointers and one of one at the line.
