CASEY -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had a big scoring second quarter and went on for a 37-26 win over Casey-Westfield in high school girls basketball action Thursday evening.

The Warriors held an 11-8 opening quarter lead as J. Roberts scored eight points and L. Moore three.

Kendra Hayes kept the Hatchets close with two three-pointers.

Then in the second quarter, Windsor/Stew-Stras got on track with a 10-3 run to lead 18-14 at halftime. Sam Hayes put in three regular baskets and K. Hayes hit another three.

The Hatchets continued on with an 11-5 third period run. Clarissa Johnson connected on two three-pointers and K. Hayes put in a trifecta and the Hatchets held a 29-19 lead going into the final period.

They had an 8-7 final quarter edge as Johnson nailed two more three-pointers.

Johnson and K. Hayes finished with 12 points each for the winners. Johnson and Hayes both hit four three-pointers.

At Toledo

Cumberland edged out to a 13-12 opening quarter lead but Dieteich tied the score 23-23 at halftime.

The Pirates then came back with a 29-14 second half run for the 52-37 victory.

Cumberland was led by three players in double figures. Alysa Dittamore led the way with seven field goals and three free throws for 17 points. Jude Miller chipped in with 16 and Suzy Fritts added 10.

Dieterich was led by Sammy Goebel with 11 points on four field goals, one of those a three-pointer, and one free throw. Addison Miller ended with nine points on two field goals, one a three-pointer and four of six at the line.

Brittney Niemerg led in rebounds with seven. S. Goebel, Ella Kreke and Callie Faller had two assists each. Miller, Kady Tegeler and Faller had three steals each. Miller had two blocked shots.

At Arcola

Neoga fell to Arcola by a 44-38 count in Thursday evening action.

The Indians trailed Arcola 9-6 after the opening quarter and 20-14 at halftime. The Purpleriders continued on with a 16-13 third quarter.

Neoga had an 11-8 final period run.

Brynn Richards scored 21 points on seven field goals and seven of nine at the line. Atalie Osborn ended with 13 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer. Neoga falls to 12-18 on the season.

The Indians will play host to a Class 1A regional starting Saturday. Neoga will host Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in a 5 p.m. contest. Dieterich will play host to Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The game one winner will advance to Monday to face top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony while the game two winner will face No. 4 seeded Altamont at 7:30.

At Paris

Paris played host to Altamont and picked up a 60-53 victory Thursday evening.

The Tigers ran out to a 23-11 opening quarter lead as Coombes hit two baskets and two free throws for six points while Watson added two three-pointers, also for six points.

The Tigers continued on with a 16-14 second quarter as Bicknell and Camp took over the scoring with seven each and they led 39-25.

Altamont was led by Kylie Osteen with five and Ella Nelson with her second three-pointer of the game.

Paris had a slight 9-8 thid quarter edge to lead 48-33.

Then Altamont mounted a comeback with a 20-12 final quarter run but couldn't get over that 15-point deficit.

Nelson led the comeback with seven final quarter points while Osteen put in two three-pointers and Avery Aldrich had four.

Nelson finished with four three-pointers and one of two at the line for 13 points while Osteen had five field goals, three from beyond the arc, also for 13. Aldrich ended with 10.

Paris was a winner in the junior varsity game, 52-22.
