Sigel St. Michael, St. Anthony, T-town Head To Eighth-Grade State With Wins

The Bullpups ran out to a 13-4 opening quarter lead on Paris Crestwood. C. Tingley connected on two three-pointers while C. Hoene added a three and B. Verdeyen two regular baskets.
Crestwood came back with a 7-4 edge in the second quarter to pull within 17-11 at halftime.
St. Anthony then mounted a 15-6 third quarter run as Verdeyen scored seven points and Hoene added four more.
Paris Crestwood came back in the final quarter with an 11-7 run but couldn't overcome a 32-17 deficit.
Verdeyen hit eight field goals, one of those a three-pointer, and was two of six at the line for 19 points. Tingley finished with eight and Hoene added seven.
St. Anthony now sports a 23-3 record and will square off against Oglesby Washington at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Class 2A State Tournament at Kankakee Bishop McNamara.
Other games Saturday include Winchester (20-3) vs. Camp Point Central (21-3) at 10 a.m., Green Valley Midwest Central (23-4) vs. Milford (20-3) at 11:30 and Oglesby Washington (24-1) vs. Peoria Heights (24-0) at 2:30.
The winners advance to 5 and 6:30 p.m. games Saturday. The winners of those games will advance to the State championship Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 6.

Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Sectional
PARIS -- Teutopolis pulled out a 46-42 victory over Paris Mayo at the Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Boys Basketball Sectional Monday evening.
The Wooden Shoes trailed Mayo 11-4 after the opeming quarter and 21-10 at halftime.
But the Shoes mounted a furious rally in the third quarter with a 23-9 run to move ahead 33-30 going into the final quarter then had a 13-12 edge for the victory.
Sammy Probst had a big game for the Shoes, scoring 23 points while Blake Niemerg also had double digits with 14.
T-town improved to 21-2 on the season and will now head to the Class 8-3A State Tournament at Tolono Unity High School Saturday. The Shoes will take on La Grange Highlands (22-4) at 2:30 p.m.
In other games Saturday, Williamsville (21-6) meets Calumet City Schrum (26-1) at 10 a.m., Bradley Central (26-0) takes on East St. Louis Lincoln (20-3) at 11:30 and Downs Tri-Valley (23-3) faces Germantown Hills (21-5) at 1.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional
Sigel St. Michael claimed the championship of its own sectional with a 35-30 win over East St. Louis Younge Monday.
The Sharpshooters improved to 23-1 with the win and will now face Augusta Southeastern at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Class 1A State Tournament at Warrensburg-Latham Middle School.
Augusta Southeastern has a 19-6 record.
In other games Saturday, St. Anne (19-7) meets Cambridge at 10 a.m. followed by Peoria St. Jude (25-2) against Danville Schlarman (13-6) at 11:30 and Ransom (24-2) taking on Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell (24-3) at 2:30.
The winners of those games advance to 5 and 6:30 p.m. contests Saturday.
Then the winners of those two contests will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 for the State championship while the losers will square off for third place at 6.
