St. Anthony's Nancy Ruholl Becomes All-Time Leading Scorer, T-town Beats Neoga, Area H.S. Girls Basketball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School's Nancy Ruholl became the Bulldogs all-time leading scorer Monday evening as the Bulldogs defeated Tuscola, 61-31.

The junior surpassed Lucy Fearday's record of 1,634 points in her career by scoring 28 points to move ahead with a total of 1,636.

Ruholl got the Bulldogs aimed in the right direction in the opening quarter. She nailed three baskets and three free throws for nine points in the quarter. She hit a driving layup with 52 seconds remaining in the quarter to move into the girls all-time scoring lead.

Ruholl finished with nine field goals in the game and was a perfect nine of nine at the line. She hit one three-pointer. She is now just eight points away from being St. Anthony's all-time leading scorer for boys and girls. The leading scorer is currenlty Mike Wente from the class of 1970.

Not only did Ruholl finish the game with a team high in scoring, she also had 10 rebounds, two assists and three steals.

The Bulldogs led 19-14 after the opening quarter and 37-18 at halftime.

Adysen Rios and Addi Lauritzen finished with eight points each for the Bulldogs. Rios had seven rebounds and two steals while Lauritzen had three assists and seven steals. Addi Nuxoll finished with seven rebounds.

Tuscola claimed the junior varsity victory, 36-33. St. Anthony was led by Aubrey Denning with 19 points.

The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season Thursday at the Enlow Center hosting Newton.

"Thursday night will be an awesome night and we hope to pack the gym," said St. Anthony coach Aaron Rios. " We have five seniors to celebrate, Addi Nuxoll, Ava Faber, Katie Kollman, Kallie Kabbes and Adysen Rios. Stay tuned on Nancy possibly breaking the school record Thursday."

At Neoga

Teutopolis High School finished the regular girls basketball season by pounding Neoga, 79-39 Monday evening in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The Wooden Shoes ran out to a 25-4 opening quarter lead as Anna Probst went wild, scoring four baskets, three from beyond the arc, and putting in two of two at the line for 13 of her team's points. She missed only one shot from three-point range in the period.

Mollie Ruholl hit a basket and was four of four at the line for six points in the quarter.

Brynn Richards and Atalie Osborn were the only players to score a basket each in the opening quarter.

T-town pushed its lead to 49-17 at halftime. Chloe Probst took over the scoring duties for the Shoes, hitting four baskets, one a three-pointer, for nine points. Ruholl added six more points.

The Shoes had a 21-17 third quarter.

Three players finished with double digits for the Shoes. Ruholl tallied 17 on six field goals and four of four at the line while A. Probst and C. Probst tallied 16 each. A. Probst hit five field goals, four of those three-pointers, and was two of two at the line while A. Probst connected on seven field goals, two of those from beyond the arc.

Neoga was led by Richards with five field goals and two of two at thel ine for 13 points.

The Indians hit only 28.8 percent from the field but were 53.8 percent at the line.

T-town connected on 52.5 percent from the field and were 71.4 percent at the line. They also hit 41.1 percent from three point range with seven.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 23-8 on the season while Neoga dropped to 12-17. The Indians will be back in action in regular season play Thursday at Arcola.

At Villa Grove

Cumberland held a 48-15 halftime lead and went on for a 69-28 victory over Villa Grove in Monday evening play.

The Pirates had a 17-7 run in the third quarter.

Four players hit double figures for the winners. Alysa Dittamore and Jade Carr led the way with 18 points each. Carr hit six field goals, three of those three-pointers, and three free throws while Dittamore put in seven field goals and four free throws. Also in double figures were Suzy Fritts with 16 and Judy Miller with 11.

At Oblong

Newton held a 28-1 opening quarter lead on Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville and went on for a 76-17 victory Monday evening.

The Eagles had three players finish in double figures. Camryn Martin led the way with 17 points on seven field goals, two of those three-pointers, and one of one at the line. Karasyn Martin and Addy O'Dell tallied 11 points each.

Maddie Brummer led in rebounds with five while O'Dell and Claire Probst had four each. C. Martin had five assists. Probst led in steals with four.

Newton is now 20-6 on the season.

"This is the first time in school history that we have had back-to-back 20 win seasons," said Newton Coach Brad Harris. "We will be back in action Thursday as we travel to St. Anthony."

Newton also claimed a 40-7 junior varsity win over OPH. Grace Schumacher led the Eagles with 10 points. Newton's JV improves to 10-5.

Three players scored in double figures as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed Shelbyville, 45-24 Monday evening.

The Hatchets took a 12-5 opening quarter lead as Ellie Wittenberg and Sam Hayes scored three baskets each for six points.

Shelbyville came back with a 9-6 second quarter to pull within 18-14 at halftime.

But WSS came back with a 27-10 second half. Kendra Hayes scored seven points in the third quarter while S. Hayes added six.

Wittenberg added five in the final quarter 14-3 run.

S. Hayes finished with 17 points on six baskets and five of eight at the line. Wittenberg and K. Hayes had 13 points each.

Shelbyville was led by K. Jones with 13 points.

Father McGivney and Altamont were tied at halftime but the visitors went on to edge Altamont, 33-28 in Monday evening action.

Altamont held an 11-10 opening quarter lead as Ella Nelson hit two three-pointers and Kaylee Lurkins put in two baskets and a free throw.

In a slow-scoring second quarter, Father McGivney had a 3-2 edge to tie the score at 13-13 at halftime.

Altamont came back to move ahead 22-18 in the third quarter. Nelson hit another three-pointer while Avery Aldrich put in two baskets.

But Father McGivney rallied with a 15-6 final quarter as McGaughey hit three trifectas and the win went home with the visitors.

Altamont was led by Nelson with nine points on three trifectas. Lurkins added seven.

Father McGivney won the junior varsity game, 39-21. Altamont claimd a freshman/sophomore game, 30-21.

Robinson came calling and was a 57-40 winner over North Clay (Louisville) Monday evening.

North Clay drops to 10-18 on the season and returns to action with Senior Night festivities Wednesday against Lawrenceville at 6:15 p.m.
