Effingham St. Anthony opened play Wednesday evening with a 36-12 victory over South Central.
The Bullpups held an 8-4 opening quarter lead and moved that to 14-7 at halftime.
St. Anthony then put the game on ice with a 22-3 third quarter run as B. Verdeyen put in seven points while C. Hoene added five and C. Tingley and S. Looman four each.
Six players scored in the contest for St. Anthony but only one finished in double figures. Verdeyen hit six field goals and was one of one at the line for 13 points. The Bullpups are now 21-3 on the season.
South Central was led by A. Hoover with six points.
In the second game, two more National Trail Conference teams battled as St. Elmo/Brownstown won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 44-28.
The two teams were tied at 7-7 after the opening quarter. SEB came back with a 12-4 run to lead 19-11 at halftime.
SEB continued on with a 15-8 third period and finished with the 16-point win.
Stufflebeam scored 20 points on 10 field goals while M. Schaub added 16 for the winners.
CHBC was led by Kaisyn Calame with 13 points. Zach Bennett added eight and Lyric Davis seven.
St. Anthony and St. Elmo/Brownstown advance to the championship game tonight at 6 p.m. The winner will head to the Hutsonville Sectional and take on the winner of the Hutsonville Regional, either Paris Crestwood or Casey-Westfield. Those two teams will meet Friday evening at 6 for the championship of that regional.

Class 8-2A Hutsonville Regional
Stewardson-Strasburg's season ended at the Hutsonville Regional Wednesday.
Casey-Westfield claimed a 44-38 victory.
In the opening game of the evening, Paris Crestwood beat Arcola, 53-39.
Casey-Westfield and Paris Crestwood will now meet for the championship Friday evening at 6.
Class 8-4A Mount Zion Regional
Effingham's season came to a close at the Mount Zion Regional against host Mount Zion by a 28-12 score.
Mount Zion took a 5-3 opening quarter lead and led 9-5 at halftime. The homestanders held an 18-12 lead going into the final quarter and went on a 10-0 run.
Effingham was led by Dagg Thompson with five points while Joel Flack added four.

Tonight's Games
Altamont Lutheran will face East St. Louis Younge for the championship of the Class 8-1A East St. Louis Younge Regional. The winner will advance to the Sigel St. Michael Sectional Monday, February 10 at 6:30 p.m. against Sigel St. Michael, the winner of the Mattoon St. John's Regional Tuesday evening.
Teutopolis will take on Robinson Nuttall in the Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional. Game time will be 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the Paris Mayo Sectional Monday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. and face the winner of the Sullivan Regional, either Paris Mayo or Sullivan.
