Sacred Heart, Stew-Stras, T-town Headed To Seventh-Grade State Tourneys

Effingham Sacred Heart, Stewardson-Strasburg and Teutopolis advanced in seventh-grade boys basketball sectional action Monday evening and will now play at State.

 

Class 7-1A Pana Sacred Heart Sectional

Effingham Sacred Heart won the Class 7-1A Pana Sacred Heart Sectional by edging Altamont Lutheran, 30-27.

The Shamrocks are now 19-4 on the season and will be playing Carroll St. John (12-8) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Normal Kingsley Junior High School in the Class 7-1A State Tournament.

 

Class 7-2A St. Elmo Sectional

Stewardson-Strasburg handed Effingham St. Anthony a 45-32 loss to win the Class 7-2A St. Elmo Sectional Monday evening.

Stew-Stras edged out to an 8-7 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 24-17 at halftime.

Stew-Stras then had a 21-15 second half run.

Pruemer led the winners with 22 points on nine field goals and four free throws. Richter added 11. Stew-Stras is now 21-1 on the season.

St. Anthony was led by Phillips with nine and Bales with eight. The Bullpups finished the season with an 18-6 record.

Stew-Stras advances to the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Macon Meridian High School Saturday as the first game of the day at 10 a.m. Stew-Stras will take on Morrisonville (23-4).

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Sectional

Teutopolis claimed the championship of its own Class 7-3A Sectional with a 52-38 victory over Paris Mayo Monday.

Paris Mayo held a 12-10 opening quarter lead but T-town came roaring back with a 14-4 second period to lead 24-16 at halftime.

The Wooden Shoes took a 28-22 second half for the win.

Pete Brummer led the way with 17 points while Mason Giles added 13 and Kason Meyer nine.

T-town improved to 26-2 and advances to the first round of State Tournament action Saturday at El Paso-Gridley High School. The Shoes will face Lansing Heritage at 2:30 p.m. Lansing Heritage has a 12-7 record.
