LOUISVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony High School pushed its National Trail Conference record to 7-0 with a 63-38 win over North Clay (Louisville) in girls basketball action Monday evening.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 20-19 opening quarter lead. Adysen Rios and Nancy Ruholl tallied five points each for the Bulldogs. North Clay was led by Avery Romack and Matia Price with seven points each. Romack hit two baskets and was three of three at the line while Price connected on three baskets, one a three-pointer.

But the Bulldogs put the offense in high gear with a 16-3 second quarter run to lead 36-22 at halftime. Ruholl scored another five points while Lilly Gannaway added four points.

St. Anthony continued on with an 18-6 third quarter. Rios scored 11 points on five baskets and one of three at the line.

The Cardinals came back with a slight 10-9 final quarter as Price hit for six points.

The Bulldogs were led by Rios with 18 points on eight field goals and two of five at the line. Ruholl added 15 on four field goals and seven of 10 at the line. Addi Nuxoll chipped in with eight.

Rios also finished with seven rebounds and seven steals. Ruholl also had seven rebounds and had six assists and two steals. Nuxoll and Ali Kollmann added five rebounds apiece. Gannaway had four assists and five steals.

North Clay was led by Price with five field goals, two from beyond the arc, and three of six at the line for 15. Romack chipped in with nine.

"North Clay is a well disciplined basketball team," said St. Anthony Coach Aaron Rios. "Coach Gregg has done an excellent job with her squad, with this being her first year on the job."

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, taking on Brownstown/St. Elmo at Brownstown.

"It should be a great National Trail Conference batle," said Coach Rios. "We hope to have the place packed with red, white and blue."

At Cowden

Brownstown/St. Elmo picked up a win over National Trail Conference opponent Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday evening, 51-46 in overtime.

The Bombers moved into a 17-12 opening quarter lead as Madi Miller put in three baskets and was two of two at the line for eight points and Danika Ramsey connected on a three-pointer.

BSE led by 10 at the half, 32-22. Peyton Barker tallied six points on three baskets while Dayana Haslett scored five on a basket and three free throws. Ramsey hit another three.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came back with a 12-3 third quarter run. Macee Rodman scored on two baskets and a free throw and Haley Doty on a regular basket and a three-pointer for five each. The Bobcats were within 35-34,.

CHBC kept the momentum going and had a 10-9 final quarter to tie the score at 44-44 sending the contest into overtime. Rodman hit two baskets in the final period while Lena Bowlin, Ellie Miller and Doty scored a basket each.

But Brownstown/St. Elmo got back on track with a 7-2 overtime run to claim the win. Haslett hit a basket and was five of six at the line, scoring all seven points for the winners.

Haslett finished with 19 points on four field goals, one a three-pointer, and 10 of 13 at the line. Miller added 12 and P. Barker 11.

Brownstown/St. Elmo is back in the fire Thursday, playing host to Effingham St. Anthony with a 6:15 p.m. junior varsity contest with the varsity following.

The Bobcats were led by Rodman with nine field goals, two from beyond the arc, and two of six at the line for 22 points. Doty also finished in double figures with 11.

CHBC (10-16) is right back in action today, playing host to Sandoval with a 6 p.m. junior varsity start.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Neoga and finished the contest with a 55-45 National Trail Conference win Monday evening.

Altamont held a 14-11 opening quarter lead as Ella Nelson, Libby Reardon, Reagan Kuenstler and Kylie Osteen hit a three-pointer each. Osteen added two free throws for five points.

Neoga's Brynn Richards connecte don two baskts and two free throws for six while Natalie Ballinger added five.

Altamont then had an 11-4 second quarter to lead 25-15 at halftime. Nelson connecte don another three-poitner and Osteen and Avery Aldrich scored four each.

Altamont and Neoga then played to a 30-30 second half.

Osteen was the lone player in double figures for Altamotn with 21 on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and eight of eight at the line.

Neoga was led by Richards with 18 on four field goals and 10 of 12 at the line. Ballinger chipped in with 16 on six field goals, three from beyond the arc, and one of two at the line.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont was a 38-18 winner.

At Farina

South Central and Red Hill (Bridgeport) played to a 16-16 opening quarter before the homestanding Cougars edged ahead 27-26 at halftime and then had a 11-9 second half to pull out a 38-35 non-conference victory Monday evening.

The Cougars' Kaitlyn Swift opened with three trifectas for nine points in the first quarter. Baylee Brown hit three of four from the line while Kennah Hiestand was two of two at the line. Free throws would be a big part of the win for South Central.

The Cougars finished with nine field goals, three from beyond the arc, and were 17 of 24 at the line.

Swift was the lone player in double figures with 16 on five field goals, three of those trifectas and was three of six at the line. Brown finished with nine and Hiestand added eight.

The Salukis were led by Caitlee Gray with 23 points.

Jude Miller led the way for the Pirates with 10 field goals, one a three-pointer, and three free throws for 24. Also in double figures were Suzy Fritts with 12 and Jade Carr with 10.

Tri-County was led by H. Buckler with 10.

At Newton

Newton High School celebrated Senior Night with a 62-20 win over Pana Monday evening and also had another big event occur.

Senior Camryn Martin broke the career scoring record with 18 points. She surpassed the record of 1,365 held by Katie Lurkins. Martin now stands at 1,376 for her career.

Newton ran out to a 23-2 opening quarter lead and led 42-7 at halftime.

Martin finished with seven field goals and two of two at the line for 18 points to lead the Eagles. Also in double figures were Claire Probst with 12 and Karasyn Martin with 10. Probst finished with a double double as she pulled down 10 rebounds.

C. Martin and Grace Schumacher had three assists each. C. Martin also led in steals with six.

In junior varsity play, Newton was a 37-29 winner. Alani Bergbower led with 17 points and Grace Schumacher added nine.

Breese Mater Dei claimed a 54-38 victory over Teutopolis in Monday evening action.

Mater Dei ran out to a 23-14 opening quarter lead as Zurliene and Koerkenmeier scored seven points each.

Anna Probst and Kelsey Niemerg hit a three-pointer each for the Shoes while Molly Ruholl led with four points.

The lead stood at 31-21 at halftime for Mater Dei.

The Knights had a 14-6 third quarter to lead 45-27.

Teutopolis had one player in double figures with 10 points. Niemerg hit three field goals, one a three-pointer and was three of three at the line for 10. A. Probst added eight.

Malea Helmink led in rebounds with six. Niemerg had one steal. A. Probst had one assist.

Robinson tallied a 45-29 victory over Dieterich in a non-conference matchup Monday evening.

Robinson held a 12-7 opening quarter lead and led 17-7 at halftime.

Dieterich came back with a 13-10 third quarter but Robinson finished out strong with an 18-9 final quarter.

Sammi Goebel led Dieterich with nine points on four field goals, one a three-pointer. She also led in rebounds with nine and had one blocked shot.

Callier Faller and Addison Miller finished with seven each. Faller led in assists with two. Miller had seven rebounds.
